Got me a GTX 1080 from Scan coming tomorrow!

Got myself a GTX 1080 from Scan arriving AM tomorrow so I'll post my performance figures and stats tomorrow evening. I am running an AMD 8350 CPU and 16gb of RAM with Windows 7 Ultimate. I currently have an R9 390 which runs VR nicely but I know I could get a better text, image and game quality and I am at 1.0 super sampling. I hear people are hitting 80/90 fps with 1080 and 1.5 and 2.0 SS so fingers crossed.

The girlfriend must never know the price I paid :D

MSI one from Scan I even had a shipping notification and DPD number sent to my mobile about 2 hours after ordering this morning. They took paypal as well which was nice as I had funds in there.

I clicked the buy on mine from Scan two weeks ago (EVGA founders) less than a second after 14:00 on the day they were released - had the window open ready, watching the clock for countdown :) Was delivered the next day.
Been very pleased so far.

But why would you ever buy the Founders edition when non reference cards are less expensive and pack more punch?

Why would/did anyone. They sold out in minutes.

Because the one's that do pack more punch are not cheaper and/or aren't available yet. I wanted to get a card when I did rather than have to wait potentially weeks for others to become available. A reference/founder card can still be overclocked and potentially hold their price better for re-sale.

I bought a reference 980 in preference to a third party. I prefer the cooling solution of blowing the hot air out the back rather than spilling it inside the case and then having the case fans take care of it. It just seems more elegant to me. And I think the performance gains are fairly marginal, no?

I'd have bought a 1080 already if they'd called the Founder one Reference instead, and charged $100 less! ;)

Yep, same here as well. Was sitting on a GTX 670 that was crashing the driver back to the desktop and/or locking up. Have had a 4k panel for a year and couldn't wait any longer to drive it at max.

Jumped on the cards after I had the email from Scan on the Friday saying they were available for sale from 14:00 - got mine at 14:00... :)

Got it with free next day (Saturday) delivery and been enjoying it for two weeks now.

What a performance increase in VR anyway! not tested with a normal game yet as the card only arrived at 11am this morning and I've had to have girlfriend time until now!

So I set everything to high and shadows to medium in Elite with the holy grail of 2.0 supersampling.

1. I hit 70-90 fps in normal space with plenty of ships in supercruise bare in mind everything is crystal clear now apart from player chat but it's readable. Literally clean, clear and very crisp!

2. Outside Daedalus in Sol with lots of ships still in the 50-70fps region as I go to dock in the station.

3. Inside Daedalus with NPC ships and a couple of human players locked at 31fps no lag or delay browsing menus etc.

I would have had no chance or ever dreamt of that sort of performance on 2.0 SS on my R9 390. I can only think as well this will improve when Nvidia get new drivers out and Elite and HTC get tweaks! well worth every penny I paid.
