Newcomer / Intro Got pirated the first time. Need advice against capable Player-Pirates

Hi everyone,

I´m fairly new to the game and got pirated today for the first time by player who seemed to know what he was doing. I was on a trade run with my T6, even upgrade it a bit (shields c 3/3), and got intercepted by a cobra. I even stayed in flight vektor but I still got pulled out of superdrive. His "warning shot" (an it was a quick burst) dropped my shield and hull to 90 %. I had hoped the t6 would be a bit sturdier but i submitted an gave him 10t of my cargo as I saw no viable way out. My Questions now are:

1. How did I get pulled out of superdrive when I stayed in front of the flight vektor cursor?
2. I´m pretty sure he was using turrets only. What kind of setup is doing that much damage? Railgun / multigun setup?
3. Is there a clever/good way out in a t6 freighter against a pirate player who knows what he´s doing?
4. Are torpedos (two of them in a t6 at maxium) enough to destroy a corba (hoping he has not point defence or ecm). If not are there weapons to do at least something?
5. Can I outrun the Cobra at maximum speed 330? My power distributor is class b/3 and is reloading pretty quickly.

Thanks for help and answers

P.S. Oh and ff you see Cmdr. Zigey or whatever his name was blow I´m out of the sky please.

1) He kept you more on his line of sight than you kept the vector in yours.
2) Could be a number of things, really.
3) Boost, FA off, use thrusters to make your flight path less predictable keep spooling your FSD and:
4) Yes, or missile racks, you can carry 12 guided missiles or two torpedos. When in FA, flip over and pellet him with missiles as you reverse-fly away. When spooled, line up and leave. Immediately jump to another city.
5) Not even close. You're in a T6, you can outrun practically nothing.

and 6) Bring a shield cell bank and better shields. Then you he'll need to kill your shields numerous times, giving you all the time to escape.

You can stop playing at anytime you like they cannot tell you when you can and can't play.

If you were interdicted even though you won the mini game, they might be cheating.

I have run away from all the ships in the game at one time or another, so just flying away works too.

Your best bet is to throttle up, pips to ENG, use shield cells until your FSD comes back on-line and escape. Soon as you get in super cruise, drop to normal space again so he can't follow you. Then log off and select solo mode ;)

The devs posted about this a few days ago. You may want to read it:

Hello Commanders!

This is a quick update to let you guys know what we’re looking at regarding the issue of “combat logging”. For clarity’s sake, “combat logging” is when a Commander ungracefully exits the game (e.g. using ALT + F4 then shutting down the game process) to avoid defeat, destruction and damage. Commanders might use this exploit the moment they are interdicted or the moment before they are about to be destroyed. First things first: we do consider this an undesirable exploit. It’s not “part of the game”. So what we’re doing is logging telemetry that will help us detect when this exploit is explicitly being used. Right now, all we’re doing (and have already started doing) is looking at and implementing methods of collecting and analysing data. At some point, however, we will start to take action against Commanders using this exploit. I can only suggest that you should avoid using this exploit if you want to avoid any penalties issued for its use. I'll just repeat: please avoid combat logging - we're taking this issue very seriously.

On a related, but separate track, we’re looking at introducing benefits to Commanders that persevere and stick it out through dangerous encounters, as well as general credit costs and rewards balancing. I’m not quite ready to talk about these in more detail just now. Obviously though, they can never counter the potential costs of ship destruction, but we want to look at a range of disincentives and incentives both to counter this issue. I hope this helps clarify our position a little.

to be honest this is why i stopped trade running..... but stay away from.anarchy systems....if you can stay running / alive long enough the system authority ships will turn.up in a lawful system...as soon as he fires on you he will wanted...not that that bothers most of them.....get the best shields and cells chaff etc....this is where the game needs developing as cmdrs could be gainfully employed protecting traders etc.....

Set up your 6 as a trader for Solo, type A all the way around, or fly as a paper plane and plan on losing a ship or 2 as a cost of business. You can also go to solo or group.

If you were interdicted even though you won the mini game, they might be cheating.

Or they might have been better at the interdiction than you were at defending against it, and possibly using a high class interdiction module. You shouldn't be so quick to point the finger at cheating - I'm sure it's happening, but it's not the first thing I'd suspect simply because another Commander successfully interdicted me.

This. I have a 1.6M Cr interdictor on my ship, which must give me some advantage, and anyway, I've done hundreds of interdictions. How many has the average trader done?

I have done none whatsoever, and annoying other Commanders by pulling them out of supercruise doesn't interest me in the slightest. However, when I am interdicted - giving the interdictor a bloody nose and a change of underwear is fair dues.

If only the pew-pew crew learned to be not so quite pew-pew.

1) Check the Dev post on Combat Logging.
2) Just because you lost the mini-game and you thought you won, they other player wasn't cheating, you were just incorrect as to "who won".
3) You cannot run away from a decent fighter in your big fat treasure box.

If you want to try and beat anyone trying to take your goods away, you need a ship that can either fight back or have the means to run away. Not many traders equip their ships correctly for either tactic, but will happily strip it down to fit in more cargo for the cr/ton/hr paradigm.

This^

I'd rep if I could, so have a virtual +1 instead :D

This is SO true. I was playing the "bad guy" recently (not pirating, just making Eravate a dangerous place to be), and saw so many trade ships running shieldless. That's just asking to be killed, IMO.

Another thing with being interdicted. The more throttle you have on during the process they stronger the interdiction bars respond. So no throttle you submit regardless of how well you are following the marker. Mid throttle makes you more manouverable but full throttle fills up your bar the quickest. Depending on your ship full throttle while keeping in the sweet spot will win the interdiction quicker.

Dumbfires.

If you can get a bead on the pirate, dumbfires will tear him a new one.

Honestly though, in a T6 you're likely to miss enough on the first volley to just give the pirate an excuse to kill you, and fighting back is therefore a sub-optimal strategy. The best strategy if you really can't bear to be parted from any cargo is max shields, a shield cell bank, max thrusters and max power distributor. Run and recharge the FSD while you're soaking you fire with your shields and the SCB.

A Cobra will still catch you - it has the best boost speed in the game, along with the Viper, but you should be able to hold it off for long enough to escape.

It sounds like the pewpew crowd needs to be more pewpew, rather than less given your anecdote though :S

yeah, so? When did they decide they can tell people how long they MUST play and when they can quit playing? It makes no difference, it's all bogus threats without merit. They cannot legally do this unless they assume the responsibility for any consequences of this action such as people being killed by home invasions while they are forced to stay at their keyboard, or a death by fire because they were not allowed to go grab an extinguisher... yeah I believe they will do that just like they will allow offline solo and issue refunds for people that have not played yet but bought the beta.
