got shot down during a delivery mission, just looking for confirmation how screwed i am

hi,

so i just got shot down during a delivery mission to deliver agri-medicines, now it was my second run and 84 more units were missing.

if i got everything right then:
  • i can not regain the units lost from the mission giver, that field looks red (right?)
  • i cannot fill up what's missing for the mission with goods i bought myself on the market, the mission target seems to want exactly the agri-medicines that exploded with my ship and none other.

did i do something wrong or am i now screwed for all the missions i had cargo on board?

If what you were carrying was mission-specific cargo, then it's gone. I've failed and abandoned a fair share of missions, it's not scary. Most of the time you just have to find a new employer :) Thankfully, nobody is asking for a reference...

hi, what do you mean with mission specific? i was wondering because what i had to deliver are pretty common goods i can buy on the market (just that the mission target dosnt want those)

Yes. That's what I mean by mission specific. More often than not what you are delivering is a unique cargo. For example, biowaste found on a market will not count as biowaste you are given. Some missions allow commodity obtained in any fashion - such as missions that ask you to donate something. But not in this case.

sigh

so i am screwed. well thanks for the answer

If you deliver over half the total, you can get a partial completion. Maybe you did enough the first run for that?

i also had a cargo full of stuff so its 2 half done missions (i just tested with the 84 if i can do it that way) and like 6 that are 100% lost.

You’re not screwed. People fail missions all the time. Low level missions just cost you a little rep which you can easily regain by doing more missions for the same faction. Higher level missions might have a fine for failure. Just pay the fine and regain rep.

it’s not a big deal.

You can also complete missions then abandon ones that you can’t complete one at a time as you successfully complete other missions so your rep doesn’t take a huge hit.

hah yeah sorry.
i think that was just the frustration talking. i have 3 different pirates spawning on me every single jump. i did well in my big-ass transporter until the game decided to switch them to anacondas (which are somehow much harder to counter-interdict)

i guess i am just frustrated being interdicted 3 times in a row every jump. i should take a break.

I've read alot about how u avoid interdictions. Assuming you've failed the mini game which l don't advise. If u do it and jump out and jump again to next point u lose em. Not always but it does work. Don't surrender yeah that causes your fsd to cool down quicker. But the trouble with this way is he tends to interdict again. And again.
So...
Your interdicted..u fail to escape the mini game. You drop out of warp. Immediately 3 pips into engines 2 in system 1 in weps just in case. THEN chaff. Then boot it as fast as u can go boosting till cool down is good. Drop another chaff if need be...I guarantee you your away. Assuming your quick with chaff and boosts.
That's how I avoid pirates. I never play open with a load and that reduces chances of being interdicted.
That's my take on it. And yeah u fail sometimes and win lots of times so loads get delivered. Don't stack jobs till your skilled and modded. Cos you'll encounter more pirates more interdictions.

i think my transport is too weak for that. it...seems like the difficulty of the minigame is also tied to the attacking ship-type. so if i lose i lose to an Anaconda while i am in my slow-ass transport. so thats a double-no on boosting out (tried, failed) admittedly my transport isnt very well build but buying that thing A-Class modules and engineering it is nothing i want to change in the next few days.

i just switched back to my python doing missions now, with which the minigame is laughably easy anyways.

the frustration comes more from being interdicted 3 times in a row, literally every jump, not from being shot down. its just...like a leaky waterpipe when you try to sleep. nothing really too annoying but the persistance of it drives me mad.

the more missions you take simultaneously and the higher level missions they are...yeah the NPCs get harder. I sometimes will take 20 elite missions at once, and get interdicted by 40 high level NPCs in 1 system. I get interdicted during interdictions in some cases and sometimes while I’m fighting pirates other pirates will jump in and join. It can be fun.

There may be an additional 'bonus' coming your way: Mission-givers sometimes frown upon failed missions and may dispatch ships to make you realize the error of your ways...

honestly i am not fully sure here.
i too read that the enemy depends on yoru ship/mission/combat rank.

but i could swear that the game rather..."cycles" the enemy. when i ran my transport for like 2 hours 19/20 pursuers were pythons, then that relation switched to Anaconds, i got shot down. took a break to calm down....and now its diamondback scouts...

I'm seeing the results of someone who doesn't read their mission details properly..

Cargo delivery missions tell you not to lose the cargo, it can't be replaced. Like seriously, read the mission details.

Some missions will come with bad guys. The mission screen tells you in RED type. If you stack missions, then you run the risk of being interdicted frequently and repeatedly. It's not a surprise.

So, yes, OP you are screwed. Not because you dropped some cargo, but because you don't read the missions you select.

It could be bad. Like apocalyptic levels of bad, the Far God is coming and there's subterranean flowerships everywhere and they're asking for ritual sacrifices. Leave them some meta-alloys. Then go back to the station you received the mission from, leave mines everywhere, attack cargo freighters from that faction, shoot the starport with plasma accelerators and gank some system authority Vipers. It should get better from there.

There is a good chance that each mission will have a pirate dedicated to stopping you, so with 3 missions that's 3 pirates additionally you can still get all the random interdictions that any one not doing missions will suffer. The good news is with each mission you complete that will be one less interdictor.

You get fined, lose some rep with the mission givers.

They won't garnish your wages, attach your ship or have shady lawyers serving papers for damages and punitive claims.
