Got Vulture but want to pirate. Idea....

I was a nice pirate when I had my Asp. I would politely ask ships to stop and wait, scan them and ask for a reasonable amount of cargo. This hardly ever worked though and traders, more often than not, did not heed my kind and friendly words and tried to escape. They were promptly destroyed.

I don't think traders realise what a grind it is to pirate them. Interdicting is a pain and so is finding targets, scooping up the loot and then selling it for minimal profit.

But I miss piracy. I'm putting out a warning to all traders that I'll be interdicting you and politely asking you to drop all cargo. And then I'll leave. I don't even have a cargo hold. I just want traders to have to rescoop 400 odd tonnes of their own cargo before they can be on their way. I think we get cargo drones in a couple of weeks so I'm going to have some fun before then.

It's not a very nice thing to do, I know. But it's my trail I'm blazing, and I don't intend to cause harm to anyone... Be wary out there, traders...

Maybe pirates don't realise what a grind trading is. Especially when a pirate comes along and wants to take what you spent your minimal profit on, leaving you with a loss.

Like your idea though, it sounds fun. Have some rep anyway ;)

Getting them to drop all cargo then scoop back what you haven't taken, then that's griefing. Pure and simple.

At the end of the day, if pirates don't let their quarry go, where's the incentive for a trader to stay in open, or even keep trading? Let them go and allow them to continue trading rather than make them lose all their cargo and what money they have to insurance. Then they'll be able to reap lots of profit and won't worry about piracy: ergo they are more likely to stay in open. You can't say pirates haven't been warned if they have no one to steal from in future, then get a complete lack of sympathy when they whine about it on the ED forum. ;)

I don't think pirates realise what fun it is to outrun them. :)

Especially the incompetent ones.

I was interdicted by a Cobra in Leesti this morning. My Asp is fast, but it's only an Asp, I boosted away and he disappeared from sensors at 6km. I think he was still trying to type a reply to my "What do you want?" message, Eventually he replied "16t cargo" and started catching up, very gradually. Not a fast Cobra. I had plenty of time to send some taunts, "You can have cargo if you catch me", "I can't wait here all day", "Sorry, but I'll have to go now" and he's still 5km behind when I jump out.

He must be new. If I see him again, I'll comply and let him have some cargo.

Last night in Lave, another Cobra. Was interdicted but see no sign of him. Interdicted a second time and he starts shooting immediately. OK Cobra against Asp, that's reasonable, but there's no comms message. I boosted and pull away from him (it's another slow Cobra, probably hasn't got pips to engines). I was getting occasional hits on my shields and had plenty of time to send "Hello? What do you want", Why are you shooting?", "Hello <name> Please talk to me", "Is there anybody there?". Eventually he sent the reply "Target practice".

Last night in Diso. Interdicted by a Vulture. Again no message. After I sent several queries he eventually replied "You can go now CMDR". I was 4km away, and anyway Vulture doesn't mass-lock Asp. I replied "Thanks" and left. I've no idea what he wanted.

If Fang is reading, perhaps you should set up a pirating school in New Caribbean or whatever you call it.

Some people are strange. Back when I first got my Vulture, I decided that us Vulture pilots got a bit of a bad rap, so I set up shop at Leesti, outfitted my ship with no lasers or shields, just an interdictor module and 52t of cargo space and went round interdicting smaller ships (so as not to incur massive repair costs), offering them 15-20t of gold on behalf of the Vulture Owners' Club. Usually, this was worth more than their ship.

Every single one of them legged it; didn't even bother scanning me to see I didn't have any weapons. One even threatened to report me to FD for pulling him out of SC.

Sometimes, you just can't help people.

Well finally another fellow cargo-repossession colleague that understands the pain of proper piracy...

Yet we still have to share the reputation with grievers and ceaseless complaints, thus is life.

The trouble is, most players can't distinguish between the two, and it can be difficult to RPG a game such as ED online. :)

Your vulture wouldn't even dent the shields on my conda before I jump out. You're still in a little fish ship, careful or you'll get eaten.

You want to be careful, saying things like that makes us Vulture pilots want to band together and come find you. One might be like swatting a fly, but have you tried swatting four flies with big guns at once? :D

Don't worry op when drones come out, you can still force traders to jettison all cargo. In fact, i'll wing up with you to help the trader scoop all his cargo up ;)
