Ever had one of those days where ye wake up, mind a big foggy from the night before which was fairly epic even by my standards as regards consuming brain cell destroying amounts. Ye go do yer business which of course means more on the floor than into the bowl as ye try to steady yerself under legs that feel like they made of rubber and a head full of a sorta fog which just happens to be the dream world clinging onto a half asleep brain...what's left of it anyway.
Yer rambling again...shut up, I'm telling the story not you.
Anyway...somehow not break every bone in my body after falling down the last 4 steps...I got this condition that means my balance is bad at the best of times, and this wasn't what ye might call the best of times. So yer makin a cuppa tea...tetley extra strong and still stew the bag fer a minute or two, and yer standing there lost and mind wandering to bacon, when an epifiny...epiphmay...why can I not spell this word? A flash of brilliance in the form of a half memory that just came at me from nowhere.
Routine and habit meant that when I got onto the ground floor and made a bee line fer the tea, the only deviation in that course was to thump the pc to get it woke up too and see what the craic is...and I'm hit like a bolt of lightning when I see the screenshot of a pair of water worlds and my ship in between...wallpaper, yeah I am that sad.
The memory is one of explosions...of near disaster and what has become somewhat of a difficult choice to make. Landed hard on a heavy G metal rich planet, and when I say hard, I mean 45% hull loss hard. Ok that hurt, but I am down if nothing else. All coming back to me now...ah yeah my stubborn OCD type nature meant I just didn't wanna quit that planet.
All coming back now, ah ye this next bit is funny...well it's funny now when I think about it, but the doors, walls and laundry basket got beaten to a pulp, knuckles a bit sore as I write this drivel. Things got way worse when I went fer a joyride. Dared meself to climb one the mountains just fer kicks...wasn't huge but was fairly big...tough going up some bits where I just got pushed back down and struggled to stop. I'm one those weirdos that actually really likes the SRV, so this was an hour of pure entertainment. That feeling when ye make the summit and get that Rocky air punching moment and damn that view just made the icing on the cake
A final jump straight up with all pips on engine to stay up as long as humanly possible...fairly good mood considering what I found on the way up...cadmium, tin and technitium...nice haul sorta makes up fer losing half a ship on the harsh landing and the complete bollox trying to drive through invisible tar. One last jump and then I'll repair and start a controlled (haha)descent and leave on a high note...hmm...didn't work out like that though...
On landing the last jump, I misjudged the landing and flipped on a slope, and bounced very hard. Now the SRV is a tough wee thing and can take a fairly harsh beating, but bear in mind I was already on 30% hull. Some would have went straight into synthesis and hit repair, but me? haha no not me...I tried to get straight into controlling the descent, which on a high G planet just wasn't gonna happen...so...ye know where this is going, there's no need to relive the pain.
So I have a tough choice to make...I got 38% hull left and no SRV so my choice is simple. Limp home or take the faster route back and losing weeks of scan data. I'm far enough out that with restricted playtime this week will take me till at least wednesday to get back...at least. So...limited choices because I really hate the idea of losing all that data including half a dozen ELW and some fairly unique dual water worlds and with the added value that I tend to scan entire systems, so cash wise, probably about 15-20m worth, which would be very welcome to someone who has 25m total.
I'm laughing at my own stupidity now...just thought we would share the joke ^^
