Governments in Elite Dangerous.

What do they do?

We all know what Anarchy systems are good for.

But, why would we look for the other kind of governments in the Galaxy Map?

Anyone knows? More change for specific mission types?

This is still a feature in the game that is unclear for me.

As I recall, it's got to do with Powerplay - certain methods of expansion and preparation are more compatible with some government types over others, and affect the background sim. Each government type interacts with others in a rock-paper-scissors (or pokemon types for the kids) kind of way - strong against one, weak against another when it comes to minor faction conflicts.

It also can affect what commodities are considered "illegal". Dictatorship sells weapons legally, I think Corporate makes them illegal, for example.

Looking at the wiki page, it's really... not very informative. I guess that can be fixed, will take some time.

Want Battle Weapons? Only legally sold in Industrial Anarchy, Dictatorship, Confederacy Governments. it's really mostly useful for fetch missions and smuggling I find. if in a system where an item is legal(let say Liquor) look at it in the commodity market and you can find the system govenments who outlaw it to try smuggling. ;)
