GPU advice

I'm not sure why you are having performance issues. I have a MSI GTX 970 and ran my DK2 no problem on Win10 x64 using the 0.5 SDK.

I ran it originally with a GTX 660, which was a bit laggy and often dropped to 40fps, but the 970 ran as smooth as a nut. Mind you I was running Win 8 x64, then Win 10 from last year - so it could be a Win7 issue.

I'm using an i5 4670k with 8gb of Ram on 3 monitors with an MSI GTX 970. It is on ultra settings and effectively pushing >6 million pixles.

Thanks for the advice everyone, you've all been a great help.

I fired up the DK2 for the first time last night using the Zotac 980ti. Initially I was surprised it didn't look too different to the 970 but I raised the ss to 1.5 and it settled down to be quite stunning. I didn't check the FPS but in space and flying around the outside of a Coriolis I could not pick up any drop-off or judder whatsoever. The improvement in quality was incredible and very immersive, to the point where I can see myself playing ED way more with the rift than without now. Landing was entirely different though - it struggled a bit on planetary approach and using the SRV. I'll have to find some simple setting modifications to apply when I go driving. I'm also getting a bit of that 3d anaglyph issue that I figured was due to my IPD being measured by the rift configuration utility - I'll try some other measurement techniques and see how that goes.

Set up:
i7 4790 stock
Zotac GTX980ti stock
16gb DDR3
120gb SSD
Settings on high with 1.5ss and I did not touch the Nvidia control panel.
Light blue HUD (green is nasty!).

Total cost (not including monitor, DK2, kb+m, Win 7, HOTAS etc) was £690 for the PC, £520 for the 980ti, £70 for the SSD and ram upgrade, and I'll be selling the 970 for £200 inc. postage if anyone is interested? Shameless plug to Freshtech solutions for all of it including great aftersales.

Welcome to the club, your life as you know is over, in a good way :)

.

i eonder if ever FD could implement different settings for different parts of the game.... planet surfaces hit performance hard, so it would be nice to have dynamic supersampling as an option, have it disable say, as soon as you enter glidemode going near a planet.

I suspected you were using the in game SS - gives a massive performance hit in my experience compared to using the nvidia dsr function. also use adaptive v sync as I find the odd tearing to be much easier on the eyes than judder.

I have single 970 and gaming 5 mobo with I5 4690k both over clocked by Msi gaming app and O genie on standard settings.

I set in game graphics to medium, rift slider to max and using dsi play in anything from 2560x1440 to 2560x1600 or something like that. I don't know what the fps is but I get zero judder in supercruise or on planets, sometimes a little tearing in stations but that's it. Use adaptive v sync. There are a whole bunch more tweaks including sweet fx as I have followed the sticky guide in detail.

Spencer- I had the 970 and I tried messing with the Nvidia control panel without much success. After I returned it to default it felt somewhat slower, even without the Rift. I am quite nervous about messing with this very expensive bit of kit...!

Few questions:

-the r9 390 just looks actually better than the gtx 970, especially since it's 8gb vs 4gb. Am I missing something?
-I have a standard ssd. Is it worth upgrading to m.2?

Without starting a fanboi war, there's advantages to both. SSD/M.2 not worth the $ right now, especially with new tech coming soon. Same with GPU, wait 3-6 months, your wallet and game will thank you.
