Gpu frequency breakup. anyone else?

Hello good commanders,

Anyone of you, that is in the alpha is expieriencing the breakup of the gpu core frequency?
Im running an overclocked HD 6990.
Elite runs in a single gpu mode, what gives the game more than enough fuel
But occasionaly the freqhency drops from 945 to 700 mhz. And the framerate drops to 2-6 frames.
This happens only with elite. I can play everything for hours and with both cores used, not such a thing happens.
The last time it happened, i was looking at the contact window and saw a cobra entering the system. than everything went wrong again. Several minutes later at least the fps came back in. Still on 700mhz but the frameoutput was decent enough to go on hunting around the damaged ship.
Maybe i should additionaly mention that it was within the multiplayer mode.

Yeah the drop in fps seems to be network related rather than graphics related.

I have exactly the same card as the OP - am getting the same issues but i think everyone is. And it does seem to be linked to network issues. It does run smoothly a lot of the time even in ID with several capital ships.

Oh that is good and of course bad.
Thanks for the input guys.
Lets hope that this will be only alpha Stuff and that they iron it out.
I have already thaught that my card was broken in some way. Even if i could not see any problems in other games.

The card can downclock due to the lack of workload - typically a game cannot affect the GPU frequency directly. The low FPS and GPU workload seem to be caused by network issues.

A bit like dropping into 2d mode (where your GPU downclocks to 300 mhz or so).

You may want to try something like afterburner to set a fixed frequency for testing purposes.

I may be completely wrong also :p

I have it to on a gtx670. It seems like the gpu throtles down because it is waiting for some other work to catch up. Like its not beeing fed or ordered to render anything. Runs at 50-90 fps, then suddenly drops to 10-20 but feels like 1-4 fps. Some say it is related to other people entering the zone. Very annoying and unplayable. Last minimum 40 seconds - but often it never recovers or your dead by npc.

Ps. Ive only experienced this in multiplayer. But happens every 10-40 minutes.
