Hardware & Technical GPU Temperature ? How Hot would you run GPU for a long time ?

Hi all, scratching the surface with ED, I haven't run anything that has gotten my system very hot before. When I put Graphics Options on Ultra or High my GPU (GTX 770) temp goes up to 76C/168F. I searched around and that seems to be OK from what I've read.

Wondering what you all think the Max Temp for a GPU should be for a long time.

Thanks

A reference 770 will top out in the high 70's possibly touching 80 degrees C during maximum load (like a benchmark or demanding game/settings). Some non reference designs will be a little cooler although not by much, also case airflow can alter the temps quite a bit. I'd say mid 70's is completely fine and the majority of GPU's would reach those temps under load, however if you are still looking at reducing temps then part from improving the cooling hardware wise (like a better case for airflow or putting a waterblock on the thing) you could just not run demanding settings and make sure your V-sync is on to lock your framerate so your GPU usage isn't 99% at all times (yes it introduces a small bit of mouse lag but it's only a major disadvantage in FPS games).

Also make sure super-sampling is at 1x if you're running ultra.

slid side of case off, stays under 160F/70C on High Graphics running over an hour, gets close to 170F on Ultra Graphics setting.
Side of case off does not help. Keep the side on. It's an airflow thing. Buy some cheap fans and stick them in your case instead.

Pfft!
My old GT9600 got as high as 98°C. I could basically cook my morning eggs on the graphics card. :D

GTX 480's have their own meme:

Even though most GPU's run into the 70's now days it's still counted as a massive improvement over previous generations.

nice pic.

back in LAN party days (pizza, beer, basement) 1/2 my mates would put big box fans next to their case with the sides off. No fans on those GPUs, just heat sinks :)

My sister's EVGA 1060 runs at about 80 degrees on air without fault. My own over clocked Asus GTX 960 strix sometimes pushes up to 70 degrees again without fault under load.

Modern GPU's can handle much more than that too without failing.

I find that if you buy a good large case then GPU temps are not a problem. At this moment I am crunching Data for seti@home on the CPU (i5 4690k) and GPU (670), and the GPU has a recorded max temp of 68C with the separate elements of the graphics card, GPU 99%, Frame buffer 75%, Video Engine 0%, Bus Interface 11% and memory at 25%. The CPU and its core are at a max of 73C, and that's on the supplied Intel heatsink and fan.

depends... AMDs tend to run a lot hotter than nvidia. for a 1080, the limit before it starts throttling is 80 deg c. slightly higher for a titan. If you're hitting those marks, you're getting decreased performance.
