" Grabbing Grid from Group "Woes. Please Help

Hi all, i posted this in general discussion earlier today and im thinking that most people dont get what im having trouble with, so apologies for reposting here, but im hoping i can get some help with this issue or that Frontier understands my problem and can answer to why this is done this way.::

I simply want to add a path to an existing group grid so i can build a plaza above the ground that matches the wall height of 6m. The game forces you to build on a grid which is 90% of the time useful, but the 10%percent that it doesnt work in your favor, it makes absolutely no sense. I can build a path free of a grid (cntrl-shift) at any height level, but if i use the group grid for the path im limited to only 0/4/or 8m, even though ALL GRID ITEMS can be put to 0m incremental height adjustment. I can even do 6m high path if i grab the grid from an existing 6m high path piece, but i cant match the height of an existing building group grid?
My issue is that i want to hide the keeper entrance, (Btw id really like to see some addtional keeper and guest gates, especially guest gates) inside a tunnel UNDER a shopping plaza at 4m and i build over it. Well i cant do it, the above plaza path for some reason, is obstructed over the keeper gate and barrier grid square so its purple and wont lay. Im assuming because of the barrier/gate. So ok, let me build a little taller because i guess i 4m wall isnt high enough to get over the obstruction. Ok lets stack another wall...8m...ugh that looks weird...too tall....lets try 2m on top of 4m...ok., not bad, now let me add the path to the grid from this group like i do with all my buildings....ok.....Shift to raise path up to meet the wall.....4m/...8m.....4m....8m.....4m....8m......why isnt it meeting up with the 6m wall? I dont understand the function get grid from group, if its only relevant if the group is built at 0 4 or 8 meters tall. It is SO restricting when i can work around it anyways without using the grid but then i lose the alignment that building on the grid provides. This honestly feels like a bug because i cant make sense why this is the case.

Yes, those mandatory 4m steps in height are a bit weird, especially considering that we can snap to different height steps when building the construction we want to take the grid from. I usually go for a workaround in cases like these. I build a bit of path aligned to the building grid (for example on the top floor) and go one set of stairs up and one step straight, which gets the path to a height of x+2m and gives me a new point to take my grid from that is still indirectly linked to the building grid. Since shift+up and shift+down still snap in 4m steps and I started at x+2m I can then get my path to heights of 2m, 6m, 10m etc. and it hugs the building wall decently well.
Works just as well with ramps instead of stairs for 1m height differences.

Maybe try adding a wall (any size) to the top of the 6m wall, remove it from the group, then select it as the grid for the new path, place the path, then remove the new wall?
