After I updated ED yesterday I went back in to change my HUD to the Green stats for better viewing. When I attempted to start the game ED would not load up issuing some type of issue. When I validated the install the game worked perfectly.....as long as I did not change the HUD colors.
Did I read in the patch notes that they moved the HUD colour definition somewhere so it persisted through upgrades? Check the patch notes, it's in there somewhere, should solve your problem.
