Newcomer / Intro Graphics card options

Hi all,

just a a quick one.

Im aware I am running ED below the minimum specs, I have an i3 and GeForce 630m 1gb.

however it runs ok, so, so far so good.

however, when I enter the graphics page in options, it suggests that it is only using the built in Intel 4000 graphics processor. The drop down list gives me no option to select the nvidia card.

any ideas.

Rob

Is it a problem though?

My laptop does the same Intel 4000 + HD7970M, it says 4000 in options but it's clearly using the more powerful card.

I have read that if you turn down the card to say 75% it will be ok with the more powerful card; I think it is the predicted heat issues that will arise if you run the card at 100% that is the problem so to protect itself the card wont run. Worth playing around a bit or maybe some drivers to fix this are out there?

Hi Rob; I assumed that my NVidia drivers were all up to date; I have GE Force GT 555M card with driver version 268.74; I checked NVidia and it turns out that an updated driver is available (Driver 344.75) which is a fairly recent driver issue; days ago. I thought that automatic updates were on and they were but somehow; i don't know when this was disabled.

So just posting to say make sure your drivers are up to date; I first downloaded the NVid Ge Force Experience thing and then the driver and to make sure I have saved it to desktop as a reminder really.
See you 'Out There'! Tharg! (Dave)

I too have a GT 555M. The game didn't recognize it initially. First, I changed the game's settings in the Nvidia Control Panel to "prefer High-performance Nvidia processor" and the Power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance" and the game still did not recognize my card. Then I updated my driver to version 347.52 which I believe was released on 2/10 and it worked. Thanks, Tharg.

Exactly the same issues here… I have a GT630M with the HD INTEL 4000…

I’ve updated NVIDIA to the last.

The game, still, shows intel 4000 as the unique choice.

I’ve opened a TICKED on january for this issue and FD made me make a modification in a txt setup file within the game… But still nothing is happening.

They anyway assured me that the game is running on the more powerful hardware because still, I’m playing at max resolution without FXAA and with a reduced drawing distance. But all the rest is totally maxed up. I have low framerates only within some close stations with heavy traffic. For the rest is like 30fps+

I think your experience it’s the same as me, so it’s basically ok.

I had the same problem: only the built-in Intel was recognized, not the Nvidia I also have on board. What I found out through a post here is that you'll have to use the Nvidia Settings manager and tell the card that Elite should rund on it. I'll see if I can find that thread and if so, update my post. In any case, try your Nvidia manager and see if you can select the Elite Client there.

Edit: this is what you have to change: Manage 3D settings > Program settings > Select elitedangerous32.exe
