Graphics & FPS Comparison on sub- recommended spec PC

Update: I have found a key thing that has helped my performance immensely- I turned off Fraps. I don't know why it was affecting gameplay, but my FPS jumped up by 10-15 frames when I unloaded Fraps. I've been using Nvidia Ansel for screenshots, and performance has been really nice. Sitting at a 45 FPS on medium, with very little stuttering at all.
---------------------------------------------------

Hello! I have an older Laptop, and was very curious to see how my rig would run PZ. I know I'm probably not the only one who has a PC that doesn't quite hit the recommended specs, so I thought I'd start a thread documenting how my PC handles the beta. Optimization will be improved in the full release, but I have to say, I'm already pretty impressed! The game is beautiful even on medium, and my FPS were solid, even when moving the camera around quickly and focusing on water and foliage heavy areas.

I took a screenshot of my PC's specs for reference:
144286

I turned on FRAPS to monitor my FPS, And then used the adorable Saidah as a model. I then took screenshots, starting from the Lowest settings, and moved on up to Ultra. My FPS stayed relatively the same throughout, with noticeable jumps only occurring in the lowest possible settings, and Ultra. Note: I did not modify any individual settings, I just used the preset modes. I scaled down the images so they would post in the forums, but all screenshots were taken at 1080p resolution.

Lowest Settings:

144290

Low Settings:

144292

Medium Settings: (Game crashed and I had to hop back in, tried to get the same angles as before)
144296

High Settings: (note: I was running Photoshop cs6 in the background, as well as chrome, so I saw a hit to FPS. Might improve if I close other programs. Had to reload again, game crashed a second time.)

144300

Ultra Settings: (still running Photoshop)

144302

Ok! So it's not the most perfect comparison. There were a few crashes as I tried to get these screenshots, so I had to reload the game a few times, as well as having different programs running. I noticed that when I loaded up the game just for myself, before I started Photoshop, had chrome open, and wasn't alt- tabbing out of the game (a guaranteed way to take a performance hit) I maintained a solid 29-30 frames, even on High. Ultra went down to around 26 Frames. I'm feeling confident about being able to run the game well at release; the PZ team is optimizing things further for the final build, and any beta is going to have some technical issues.

I am so in love with this game already, and I've hardly touched it so far. I'm going to keep working on trying to find the perfect settings to run the game as prettily as possible, while maintaining solid performance. If I find anything that has a huge impact on performance, I'll post about it here. I'd love feedback from anyone struggling to run the game or if anyone found this thread helpful.

I ran it on a GTX 960 with 1G of Memory. Didn't count FPS, and at this point, I haven't looked at graphics settings. Sometimes it didn't feel quite as responsive as it should, but for the most part, it's OK.

Got a new RX 9700 XT yesterday, and then found out that I'm missing the 8 pin cable from my power supply that I need to run that card :(

So as i have systemstats and fps count via Rivatuner shown all the time here are some numbers.

System: Win 10 home 64bit, i7-9700k @ Stock, 32Gb DDR4 3200mhz, EVGA RTX2080Ti XC @ 1935mhz, SSD only system on Samsung 850evos, latest drivers, Samsung CF791 21:9 100hz Monitor

Graphicsettings: 3440x1440p @ 100hz (game will only let me use 60hz), frameless window mode (fullscreen not an option?!), ALL SETTINGS MAXED OUT! Vsync off

FPS: lowest 31; highest about 50 AVG between 35 - 40

Tested in the pre build scenario map.

That's rough, I'm sorry to hear that! Upgrading is difficult for me, I always run by a few friends in IT to make sure everything goes together. I'm glad the game runs alright for you though, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Nice! This is good information. I noticed that about Frameless windowed too- I always run games better in fullscreen, so I'm keen to see how that affects performance on release.

My pc is at the recommended specs exactly, and the game runs poorly. The animals don't look as good as they should, and it has a really bad frame rate. I can't afford another pc, or to buy parts. If I bought parts, sadly I wouldn't know what I would need to look for...

No need to be sorry. It's just a cable that's missing, I'm sure I'll find a solution to get the graphics card running, certainly by the time the full game comes out :)

That's actually kind of scary, 40 FPS with that system... I kind of bought my RX 5700 XT with an upgrade to 3440x1440p in mind, but if that's what you get with a 2080TI, I'm not sure the card will be able to run this resolution for the ~4-5 years I usually wait between upgrades...

That's really weird. Are you sure there isn't something wrong with . . . something?
I'm running a build with a 2080 SUPER, i7-9700k @ 3.6 GHz, and only 16 GB DDR4 3000mHz with a 144Hz monitor. I get on average anywhere between 60fps-130fps with maxed/ultra settings while streaming.
Chances are it's probably the fact that you're gaming in 2K, but with those specs you should still be getting a much higher framerate. Are you sure there's nothing running in the background? Is your computer really hot? Could be thermal throttling of some sort.

Thanks for this!

If anyone else who reads this has sub-minimum specs I really want to know if it still works. I have 3 laptops which don't meet the requirements and I just bought a new one so I can't upgrade. I have a geforce 840M with i5-4210H, a UHD Graphics 620 with i5-8250U and a nvidia quadro M1200 with i7-6820HQ. But I'm not good with technical stuff so I don't know which cpu/gpu is comparible. If anyone has any idea if I will be able to play the game at the lowest of settings with maybe 15 fps I would be really happy. Haven't been this excited for a game since BOTW and it sucks that it's pc exclusive ):

I used "Can you Run it" to get a basic idea of what I need to run the game. Please note- Even if they say you can't run it here, you might still be able to. I got a 'no' from this site, because of my graphics card, but I'm playing the Beta on Medium and get a solid performance, and very much enjoying myself. This link lists the minimum and recommended requirements, and should give you a good starting point. If you want to test each of your laptops, you can run this on all of them and see which one fares best. If you need help optimizing stuff, I can do my best to help, if you wanted. I gamed on very much not for gaming laptops for a long time, and got pretty good and getting stuff to run. Here's the link- just type in planet zoo and click 'can you run it': https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

Thanks for the tip! I already used that site, and that's the reason I came to the conclusion my systems are not able to run it. It gives me a little hope that your card was fitted as a 'no' as well. But I think I'm going to wait until november 5th, then try it out on maybe 2 of my laptops and if it is really bad I can like refund it in steam. If by that time I can message you about optimizing stuff and seeing if I can make the game work, if you'd be willing to help that would be great! The only trick I know is updating the drivers to the latest, whoops.

I own a HP Omen 17" Laptop
specs:
GeForce GTX 1070
Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80 Ghz
31.96 GB Ram
3840x2160, 60Hz
NVidia driver version 436.30

The game runs but the laptop gets very hot within 20 minutes (62 degree C)
I've tried 3 times even with the settings on medium playing the Tutorial, the temp still goes up to 62 degree C.
I do have a cooling pad (5 fans) under it.
I would love to play this game but I'm afraid I'll be risking the life of the laptop.
Are there any settings that I can adjust or should I just wait until the game comes out and then try again?

System was fully build from ground up one week ago. Everything is brand new. No backgroundprogrammes etc. Hot System? Nope custom watercoolloop. CPU delidded @ 45C° max and GPU @ 60C° max at full load. U cant compare a map from franchise mode with the scenario one. Load the scenario and do some benchmarking runs. As there are a loot of small assets and many details the systemload is insane and so the system performance. I would say it is an engine problem or it is just the high resolution as it dumbs performance in most games.

I play on an HP Omen 15"
Geforce GTX 2060
i5-8300H 2,3GHz
16GB RAM

at the beginning of the beta i had some framerate drops and stutters, but after the first patch those went away.
Playing on default "Ultra" settings.

Update: Okay...so i tried something little "insane" and used nvidias dsr tech to boost up the resolution from 3440x1440 to 5160x2160. Gues what. 43fps at its lowest. ^^

Ah, I see. Now that I've developed my zoo a little bit with more habitats + assets I've noticed a significant drop in frames. While streaming I now hover around 45-70 frames in 1080p. Hopefully the optimization gets a little bit better!

I have a gtx 1060 and the computer handles medium pretty well. I did turn a few setting to high. It's a laptop though and I need to keep an extra fan on it. I did set it to the highest preset and everything looked lovely but I get a significant lag when doing terrain and such if I have it at the highest preset.
