graphics setting question

A long time ago (and 2 PC's ago) during combat, lasers would make glowing hull marks on target ships. Beams would make streaks, Pulse lasers would make big dots, etc. I haven't been able to find if this is even still possible nor what setting I need to change. Does anyone remember these? and more importantly what setting makes them appear? Any insight is appreciated.

Edit: just to be clear, currently my lasers make black marks on the target hulls; what I would like to see are the glowing marks.

As far as I know, version 4 of the game (ie. Odyssey) changed graphically quite a lot. Some things don't look as good as before, while other things look significantly better.

It would be nice if we got the best of both worlds, but what can you do...

When the materials were reworked for Odyssey, a lot ot them, which used to have emissive texturing, no longer did -- it took a fair bit of time until we got e.g. the glow from the flightseat console back, and some were rather vocal about the ship bling they had paid for seeming to have had its LED strips burned out -- I suppose this may be an example of a remaining case...

There is a whole section for damage decal quality presets in GraphicsConfiguration.xml (which preset is used is detemined by the Environment setting), but I don't think there is any parameter that governs light emission -- that is probably "hardcoded" in the material/shader...

If you can confirm it is indeed not working, with some other players, perhaps you could open a ticket on the issues tracker about it, and maybe that way find out whether the change was intentional or not...
