Newcomer / Intro Graphics settings

Hi All

Just downloaded and started the game and allowed the installer decide on my graphic settings, which it set at ultra.

I currently have an nVidia gtx680 with 4gb ram installed (with a 980 waiting to be installed)

I'm getting a lot of shimmering when docked and wondered what the optimum settings for graphics were and the best way of adjusting them.

Any help would be much appreciated

Many thanks

Regards
Alan

You'll want to raise the texture quality. Thankfully ED is very forgiving and your card won't take a major fps hit because of that.
This should eliminate that shimmer.

Also you may want to look into enabling DSR via the Nvidia control panel under the Global 3D settings, to enable higher resolutions than usual.

Can you describe the 'shimmer'? Is it everywhere or just ui etc...

Hi

Its mainly apparent looking out the front canopy, not so much when looking at boards etc.

Seems to start slowly then increase. Difficult to describe to be honest :) and I'm not at the game at the moment but it's like waves of shimmering along the edges.

I'll post back when I'm in game

Hi Sargon

thanks for replying

Sorry but how do you increase the texture quality? It's already set itself to ultra

If you've set everything maxed out... one thing that comes to mind is anti-aliasing. Perhaps your Nvidia settings are taking over rendering parameters, sharpening them.

If you haven't already, try using the Nvidia 3d driver presets for Elite Dangerous that were recently added to the newer driver. Can you take a screenshot? (F10)
The game saves to:

C:\Users\XXX\Pictures\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous

For high resolution screensaves use ALT+f10 (make sure you're in SOLO MODE as I believe high res captures are now limited to this mode)

Check the shadow quality. I noticed something similar; my install defaulted to "Ultra" too, except for shadows, which were at medium.

GTX 970 and also have shimmering on the space station textures. Not much of a help, but just wanted to report that you are not alone ;)

@Sargon : Where do I find the presets for elite? Nvidia experience doesnt show me any results?

Hi All

Back in game and I've noticed the shimmering is far far worse with track IR ie. when the view is moving. In cockpit views aren't too bad but looking outside its terrible.

I'll see if I can attach a screenshot (if it shows anything)

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has this problem with track ir and if there's a way round it.

As always many thanks for any help,

Regards
Alan
