Graphics Tweaking Guide

I think this guide is more important to rift users than anyone else:

http://in2gpu.com/2014/12/16/elite-dangerous-performance-guide/

highlights:

Model Draw distance: It has a LOW impact on framerate
Texture Quality: It has a LOW impact on framerate
Shadow Quality: It has a HIGH impact on framerate
Bloom: It has a LOW impact on framerate
Blur: It has a VERY LOW impact on framerate

Antialiasing:
SMAA – It has a HIGH impact on framerate
FXAA – It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
MLAAx2 – It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
MLAAx4 – It has a HIGH impact on framerate

Ambient Occlusion: It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
Environment: It has a LOW impact on framerate
FX Quality: It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
Reflection Quality: It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
Material Quality: It has a MEDIUM impact on framerate
Galaxy Map Quality: It has a LOW impact on framerate

Seems consistent to what I've been seeing. Turning off shadows and AA will lock me at 75fps in stations where as others don't give nearly as big an impact.

How do you check your FPS on the Rift?

I hade the best Expireances with lowering the Shadows.

Most people seem to use rivaTuner or msi afterburner (which includes rivaTuner). It can place gpu/cpu stats onto the screen and you can adjust its position ( from memory something like 300,300 is need to be seen in the rift). Not sure why Frontier hasn't bothered to move the fps counter (ctrl-F) so that Rift users can see it.

Okey i will check this, then with my Tool i cant place the FPS free on the Screen so it is Top Right / Left or so but out of the reach to see it.

This is kinda nonsense as all AntiAliasing-Methods found in ED are post processing methods whichs impact on performance goes near to zero.

Fixed:
SMAA – It has a LOW impact on framerate
FXAA – It has a VERY LOW impact on framerate
MLAAx2 – It has a LOW impact on framerate
MLAAx4 – It has a LOW to MEDIUM impact on framerate
