Graphicsconfiguration / Rift S

Hello all,

It may has already been reported, but I found something interesting in graphicsconfiguration.xml

My objectif was to reach SS 1.0 and HMD 1.75 with my new RTX3070 and my old i7 6700k on z170. It was almost good, except in asteroid fields or CZ. Too much stutters and fps drops.

And I found a good compromise. In the section <DamageDecals>, put <Enable>false</Enable> for the 3 modes, low, medium and hight.
Massive improvement for me. Yes... Of course, there aren't decals anymore, but well... Good solution to have a smooth experience.

I have nothing on "low" in the graphic options, ingame. Only "ambient occlusion" and "blur" are disabled.

Stutters are rare now. And the game is beautifull in the Rift S.

Is that just the decals, so the glowing heat lines or does it also affect the sparks and flares?

Sparks and flares are still there yes. DamageDecals affect only the textures on a surface (on ships during fights, asteroid when mining, ground damage on planet...) I think.
It is not very annoying to turn them off, because you can only see them up close, IMHO. (Except for mining maybe, because you're close to asteroid and focus on it)

Huh.... I used to get massive stuttering in CZs and busy RES with lots of battles after some time has passed, and I never could figure out why. I wonder if this might be the answer. Decals would not be present right away, but would eventually accumulate on ships as battles raged. I'll have to try this and see if it makes a difference.

Exactly the same for me, at first it was quite smooth, but after a few minutes of fighting: stutters and fps drops. Same thing when I was flying very close to ice asteroids, stutter. It was very annoying... I tried turning off the effects, lowering the graphics options, and no change. But I was pretty sure there was something to do with the decals. I found this option in the xml, and... Magic... Not perfect yet, but massive improvement.

I still have stutters during combat when there are a lot of ships very close to the cockpit at full speed with sparks all over the place. But it's micro stutters, and i don't have big fps drops anymore. Totally playable anyway.
