Heya all,
Shouldn't the gravity of a planet pull you, rather than repel you? The moment you are affected by a stars gravity, shouldn't you travel faster towards it? In game I see the opposite. No matter which angle your approach has, the effect stays the same. Some would say that the engines autopilot is compensating on the effect, trying to save you from a rather fast accident you could have with the star. And if you continue to do it wrongly, it pulls you out of supercruise all together. Why rely only on your engines when there are larger power plants out there?
It would be nice to use the gravity for acceleration , through a slingshot maneuver around the objects outer ring. This will be fun to do, and also reduce with a proper way the time needed to travel to distant stars in the same system.
I would like also to have a gravity indicator, which could help me avoid or pursue a celestial body. Small mass stars should have a lesser effect, although I think this is already implemented. And what's this automatic deceleration? There should be none. You should be able to turn off your engines and retain the same speed.
