Ok I am not talking the force, but rather the film which I believe releases in the UK on the 8th of November, this is a film which I got to see last Friday here in the States in its full 3D and despite some of the science being off (these are well documented) it was recommended by none other than Buzz Aldrin who summarized it by saying he "was very, very impressed with it." I don't think he gives much away, and honestly there isn't too much to do so, but this isn't the point of this thread. No spoilers please!

When the first scenes showing the depths of space with endless dots of stars I first felt a little vertigo and then thought of Elite as well as the feeling I sometimes get when peering through my telescope, honestly I think for anyone working on Elite Dangerous it should be highly encouraged to see this film (and of course anyone else too), very few sci-fi films actually manage to capture the over imposing size of Space like this film did and honestly if Elite manages to capture the sense of grandeur Gravity did we'll be onto a winner just in this department

Wish it was out sooner than 8th of November for the UK, it is silly to have to wait until next month, but I hope no-one minds the thread appearing now. Frontier, this is a must see :).

I'm going to watch this with my mate and our gf's coming Saturday in IMAX 3D. 've been looking forward to that for a while! The trailers look awesome.

It's funny, but all the previews I've seen of this leave me very 'meh.' I'm sure it's a very visually striking picture, but honestly I cannot tell what it's about. Just a disaster film in space?

I'm very much looking forward to this, despite the fact that it's got Bullock in it (I regret that the previous candidates for the role turned it down). We Finns are pretty much in the same boat with you Brits - we'll also have to wait until next month, although the film has already been in theatres, I believe, in Sweden and other neighbouring countries... :/

It was my first and last impression, but seems from feedback it is very good disaster film in space - which as far as I remember is something like "once in century" affair in cinema :)

I was skeptical first, some previews of trailers I read said it looks like throwing all our knowledge about space and gravity in basket, but more and more reviews - both my friends and pros - indicates that as usual - good director + good vision + good script + good actors = just perfect movie :).Always you can't judge movie by it's cover...err...trailer :)

In this case, I've understood that the disaster is just the beginning of the story. But, I've avoided being spoiled, so I really don't wish to know much more than that.

I will look at the reviews on the net and read the article of press about this film, and if it is successful, I'll see. Because I love everything that happens in space

They're already saying that Sandra Bullock's acting is outsptanding in this movie and might even earn her an Oscar(nomination). Seemingly it is a very emotional rollercoaster ride.

I'm skeptical.... Broke box office records? I take it you mean financially, which is false representation. back in the 80's it was £1.50 to goto the cinema, in the 90's it was £3, 2000's it was £8, now it's £15-20, so yes, when Its £30 you'll break the current record, even though fewer people might see it.

I'd love to see them put "bums on seats" to measure sales.

I met somebody else who was whining about its lack of realism (before no doubt rushing off to see another film about flying teenagers). :p

Buzz Aldrin > Neil deGrasse Tyson in this case, at least Buzz has been into space and even had a jaunt on the Moon :p.

It is worth knowing what's real and what has been fudged to make a spectacle, to make entertainment which is exactly the same challenges Elite Dangerous faces when deciding between realism and fun.

The plot of Gravity, unfortunately, does rely on some pivotal science boo-boos, but I understand sacrifices have to be made sometimes for the sake of the movie itself—without them, there’s no movie at all. And I’m far more willing to be forgiving when it’s clear a huge effort was made to get as much right as possible, which is obviously what director Alfonso Cuarón did (an interview at Collect Space confirms all this). The attention to some details was staggering.

I may have to give it a shot, then. I can forgive some science errors (I'm a space nut, not a real life astrophysicist anyway!) but what concerned me from the trailer was the apparent lack of story. It won't have been the first good movie to have a ****ty trailer, of course.
