I've had a few forays into exploring. First with a Cobra Mk. III out to Barnard's Loop and everything in between. Then I got myself a DBS and decided to head to the core. I got about 6,000Ly and turned back. I was bored, I couldn't do it. Space madness was setting in. Then I took a DBE out to the Veil and some of the nebula in that area.
So, after that I spent some time in the bubble. My little forays into the black had netted me decent money, so I had plenty of fun with the smaller ships doing CGs.
Now, one or two of those were giving ridiculous money, so I managed to net enough to kit out an Asp Explorer, so that's what I did...but where to go?
Barnard's Loop and that sector in general had been locked out by FDev for 'story' or something. I'd just been to the Veil. The distance to the core scared me a bit and I'd given up on that once. So I decided to explore the galaxy map and found some black holes, one or two possible planetary nebula, some rare carbons and so on. I bookmarked something interesting every 1,000Ly from Sol as a waypoint. I generally head to the opposite side of the core to Colonia and set off...in July last year.
I don't get much play time as you can guess. If anything, it's got less more recently. I stopped for about six weeks after I'd hit all my goals and was faced with a "what next" question. I can't farm Neutrons, that gets boring fast, and I'm not after the money really, nor the Elite status...I'm just trying to keep exploring interesting. So, I explore the GalMap again, realise that actually, I'm only about 4,000Ly from the Great Annihilator. I'd already found a little cluster of black holes and like how they look, so I bookmarked the GA, found some interesting bits between myself and that, and set off again, and finally, FINALLY I was within one jump of the Great Annihilator, and about 2:00am when my concentration is not at its best.

...WHOOOOOOMP!
WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL IS THAT? I rush to zero my thrust, both on joystick and in rectal area. It scared the living daylights of me. The fact that I did a full 180 and the sky was still distorted really threw me...jeez this thing is big compared to others I've seen. It's the only time I've seen the whole of the galactic core distorted like that...absolutely amazing to look at.
Pheeeewww. It was easily as scary as a lack of concentration on a 3G world and scraping 30% off my hull in a crash landing. At least this caused no damage!
Y'know what was also cool? Seeing tagged stars again. Sounds weird, but it's a little less lonely when you see those tags. Although I did laugh at one CMDR who had tagged a star 60Ly (about 2 jumps for me) from the GA, but failed to grab the ELW that I happily nabbed! Thanks for that...ELW number 8 for me!
Now, I'm about 200Ly away from the GA and heading for Sag A...I think this time I'm going to make it...then on to Colonia!
I don't think I'm getting back the bubble anytime soon!
