Great game, i am concerned about longevity.

Elite is one of the best games i have ever played, but there just does not seem to be enough types of activities to do.

You have.
Bounty hunting
Trading
Mining
Exploration.

But nothing really comes of these endeavors. You can mine but resources are just mines for money you cant actually do anything with them. I love the game but i wish there was more to do such as

Crafting.
Colonization.
An effective way to use multiple ships
Things to increase player interaction.

I love the game, but i am getting bored.

Its been out a week... i hear there are plenty of games on the internet that can also be played if this one is lacking content to keep you entertained...

Crafting sounds interesting on paper, but it would have to be balanced. Presumably this would work by you mining items, turning these into metals and then turning these into usable items. The question is how? Where do you fit all the manufacturing gear? Most ships wouldn't be big enough for this I expect.

Colonisation will probably come in some form and piggy back on Exploration and was mentioned by DB during the KS campaign. Suitable systems discovered by Explorers would be marked for colonisation. An expedition would be sent and then a station would be constructed, presumably along with some mention on GalNet. Players could then decide to help the effort by providing raw materials or even hindering it by destroying transporters on the way, with rep increases and decreases along the way.

Crafting ship parts was implemented with success in Jumpgate. It was done by a natural process, miners would take ore to processing plants, then the processed ore and other components made on other stations to crafting center stations which would produce the components which where then sold on the market. This drove the economy and item availability.

My guess is for something like this to be implemented in the slightest would require a total reworking of the way the economy works within ED. And possibly go against Elite lore as well.

Instead of just selling your goods to a generic store you could use these to build your empire you colonized or use the money to hire people to join your side in war. You could make cosmetic things, anything really when i mine i feel as if i am just mining money.

The sheer hours you have played is not a fair comparison as some only get to play an hour or two a day. Still playing a game, say six months later, would be an achievement for me at least. :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's a lot to do even at this point.
Stay put, I'm sure plenty more is to come.

Get tooled up and try tracking down some of the players with big bounties on their head, the ones displayed in station menus. That's the most exciting thing about the game for me so far. Boba Fett the crap out of it.

Like what?

Its not hard to find information on the plans and development stages FD has in store for ED... They have mentioned NUMEROUS times that the game is going to be a constantly evolving project... does that mean they will implement everything next week? no.. is there a possibility of having to wait 6+ months for some of these features.. likely... in the meantime, enjoy the scenery or check back with it in 6 months

Why release a game with nothing to do? Paid DLC i presume. The game feels unfinished, the foundation is good but there is NOTHING TO DO at the moment.

That depends on your outlook of the game.. ED does not spoon feed you activities.. its up to you to go find them.. YOU may think there's nothing to do.. I have been playing almost daily since beta and I still find stuff to do.. what you put into the game is what you get out of it.. If you think landing on a planet will give you "more to do" then you will be dissapointed as well.. all it will do is give you a pretty place to do more of the same stuff you do now.. instead of hauling space junk from one station to another, you will haul it from one station to a planet...

This is simply not your flavor of game.. nor will it ever be, if your looking for:
Battlefield 4 in space
Warcraft in space
Space GTA
Some sort of weird Skyrim space hybrid.. :)

There isnt an end game here... no final boss.. its just you and a sandbox.. its up to you what you want to build.. if its not "shiny" enough to hold your attention, that's not the games fault

A good example for me is SpaceEngineers.. I have around 400 hours into that game.. creating things, building things.. blowing things up.. there is absolutely ZERO point to that game other then to play lego in space.. but... its entertaining for some.. My friend.. 2.3 hours on record.. told me "there's nothing to do".. and you know.. its the same debate.. he has 600+ hours on Bf4.. i have like 90.. and most of that is just playing with him while drinking at night! he thinks that game is amazing.. and all i can think is "looks pretty, but all you do is fight over some meaningless territory for 30 min and change maps? theres nothing to DO in battlefield.. and find IT boring..

Every likes different cake i guess

While I'm currently enjoying my time in E:D, the lack of endgame content peeves me a little. There's no wars to fight, no big stories to tell, just more of the same. And while FD has said that player wings are a high priority, I worry that we'll have no reason to form them. But, unlike some have said, we don't need to turn E:D into EVE to give people reasons to band together.

If massive convoys traveled the tradelanes, me and my friends could join up and protect them (or rob them). I want to go on capital ship raids like in the trailer. We don't need player owned stations, or the ability to change our HUD color, we just need some reason to get together and make our own fun. If you bring players together like that, they will make your game for you.

That statement is only true if there is something to build in the first place. So, what can you build?

This game is an extension of the previous versions of Elite, it is what it is because of them, and is a marvelous piece of work maintaining the old traditions of Elite whilst providing up-to-date gameplay.

I doubt well ever see the ability to build things other than our balance and ship etc, that would break the mould as it were, you never know though in the longer term....time will tell, but it wont happen over night!

I fully agree with the OP.

Yes, you can easily spend 300 hours in this game right now. Unfortunately, those 300 hours are astonishingly unproductive. (290 of those hours are spent in super-cruise btw)

I guess I've been spoiled by the X series, but I've racked up nearly 1 million credits right now by just grinding and I'm having a hard time finding a point to continue. What can I build with this pile of money? ...

- I can't make a fleet
- I can't build a station
- I can't make my own empire
- Very, very limited number of equipment/customizations to buy for my ship
- and even if I could customize my ship the way I wanted, I can't even see it from the exterior, except in "outfitting mode"

As far as a trader is concerned, all I can do is just buy a bigger ship, and continue... grinding with absolutely no end point. And when I get the "elite" trader status, then what?

Ok, but we do have a REALLY fantastic sandbox right now. So I'm just hoping this was planned by the developers to release the "heart" of the game so to speak, by a series of expansion packs. I do sincerely hope there is something amazing planned to input into this cool world, because it has amazing potential.

Right now unfortunately, feels pointless.
