Great music in games

I encourage you to share anything related to music in gaming - full soundtracks, themes, or just your favorite pieces. Go ham, no restrictions applied :) Popular choices and hidden gems are welcome.
I think I can kick off with few quite obvious choices, for a reason :)

Fallout 2.
Relaxed jazzy "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" by Armstrong, followed by haunting yet beautiful drones and ambients of post-apocalyptic America. Great example of minimalism used to great effect. People who like ambient can definitely enjoy some pieces from this.

Deus Ex Human Revolution.
I went for newest(not for long) game in the series because I though it's soundtrack was a nice evolution of all the ideas of the original. You just listen to the main theme and you know - you're in for a treat. It's epic, it's dramatic and oh boy it sounds so HUGE :)
Michael McCann captures the spirit of the game perfectly, and delivers something unbelievable.

And for the last - blast from the past :) Grim Fandango. Gaining unexpected popularity after recent remaster it retained something that didn't need improving - glorious soundtrack. A tale about life, death, love, betrayal, and everything in between - it has everything. Spirit of noir cinema lives strong in this one.

Alright, I think I rest my case for now. Just hoping this thread won't die after 2 replies :D

Something old that stuck with me for life...

All time favourite. This has such meaning for me that it's been my phone ringtone for the last 8 years.

Same title, different song.

The Freespace and Freespace 2 sound tracks always work for me immersion wise, so much so I play them whilst playing Elite. Nothing against the music in Elite, it's well composed, but it just doesn't work for me!

The first game I played that I thought had really atmospheric audio was Morrowind. In fact, there is a theme that plays in the wilderness areas in the north that is exactly the same as the deep space exploration theme you hear occasionally in ED - not just similar, almost precisely the same :)

Maybe out of nostalgic reasons I'm bringing Heroes of Might and Magic, third and arguably the best game in the series :)
Always loved music in it.

Same here, though I generally listen to Hans Zimmer sountracks (Interstellar, Inception), the Blade Runner soundtrack and also Tron Legacy soundtrack to mention but a few.

Need for Speed. Music has always been a huge part of my experience. I thank for Prodigy, Static-X, Strypes and many others

Yasunori Mitsuda is my favourite game composer. He made the Xenogears and Chrono Cross soundtracks, which are among my top favourites.
Final fantasy VIII soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu is also fantastic.

For some reason I tend to pay a lot more attention to music in japanese games than western ones. They tend to emphasize more on melodies and less on orchestration, IMO. Though the Deus Ex HR is also fantastic for the atmosphere it creates throughout the whole game.

Assassin's Creed usually have great OSTs, especially the first ones composed by Jesper Kyd.

Lately I feel less and less creativity in games music in general, like they focus on production value and accompanying the action through generic orchestral compositions, rather than try to create memorable tunes. I'd have trouble humming a tune from most of my recent favourite games, while I could sing the entire soundtrack by heart for a lot of PS1 classics, or older games.

All of the Witcher games, have great soundtracks, but especially:

Witcher 1: Dusk of a Northern Kingdom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuhhithTvMI
Witcher 2: Dwarven Stone on Dwarven Stone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_jizNCiInw
Witcher 3: The Fields of Ard Skellige: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NknjE2SBPxw

And I also love Michael Mann's Deus Ex soundtrack, and Jeremy Soule's stuff on Morrowind and Oblivion.

Bonus Witcher 3 track: Wolven Storm - works brilliantly in the game too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=823yuWz0lto

Fields of Ard Skellige was my second favorite music piece from W3 :) First one is easily Priscilla's song performed in a pub. Damn what a beautifully written piece it is. I'll be completely honest - I might have dropped a few tears while watching that bit for the first time. Very manly tears :D

I don't really recall much of a music from previous Witcher games, I've played them such a long time ago.

It's a very emotional piece, and the animations etc while she is singing are masterfully edited. I think it was the point during my play of that game that I realised just how extraordinary mature W3 is.

I'll admit to getting a bit teary to that one. :)

I choked up big time when I first heard this. Myself & Germanica listen to it frequently. Makes us feel... Close.

Astonishing graphics quality. And why has the witcher have vertical pupils?

Witchers go through a specific ritual to become who they are. Most boys die during trial, those who survive become mutated monster slayers :) "Cat eyes" and better vision in the darkness is one of the side effects. Along with infertility :) Just a little trivia.

Mass Effect trilogy soundtrack was just, hands down, the best video game soundtrack for me. So fitting for the games and really added an extra layer. Actually used to listen to the original soundtrack from ME 1 at work when I was craving my ME fix and couldn't play.

My favourite castle and favourite music from this game, good choice

My choice will be Diablo 2 soundtrack...

Its very oryginal (to the point where over the years i struggle to find anyone with a style similar to Matt Uelmen), changes a lot from act to act, and fits the game perfectly
