One of my favorite parts of ED so far has been the full milky way realized into the game. I loved that I could look west to Arcturus and decide to sit down and fly there.
There is a fantastic phone app that I have called "Sky Map". I used it when I would speculate what star or planet I was looking at and check to see if I still know my stuff. It is a fantastic conversational piece too.
Today I was outside on my balcony playing around with Sky Map and realized there was a chance that the star I was looking at is within the current gameplay region.
How it works:
-Free app, installs virtually instantly as it is not very big.
-Once opened, it will calibrate GPS on your phone for a quick moment while it loads.
-You now can see every known star that your phone is pointing at.
-Point the phone at a star and see what its name is.
-Find local planets in our solar system, select them and see their orbit path.
-You can point it straight at the ground and see whats going on at the other side of the earth.
Try it out, its free and alot of fun!
