Greatly improved VIVE experience

Just take the foam face padding out. Cut a piece of felt or similar to line the Velcro hooks.

It's definitely still not perfect but the text is a lot clearer so infinitely more playable AND you get a wider viewing angle / better experience with everything.

Vive face padding not very well through out, so yes I will be replacing it shortly.

As for text sadly this still an issue, EVERY other game or software fine apart from ED. But understand they are looking to correct this soon(TM).

Well something changed for me cos it's like a different game. Could still be better but it's now more than playable and a hell of an experience.

Hey Bloke your right, the mod works well :)

Two things.. a: Having the lenses close makes things 'bigger' and more 'in' the environment.
and 2: Having the lenses close reduces lense/fresnel flare. (try it, remove the 'interface' :) and pull the headset away (like its still there))

woot! Now to make it comfortable!

Does this change help with the blurry effect around the edges of the lens, like the text being blurry unless you have it towards the center of your view?

This is common with all VR headsets. You're reffering to the "sweet spot". Yes, decreasing the distance between lens and eye also increase the sweet spot size. Not by much, but it helps.

I've spent about a week making gradual adjustments to my Vive. I have my inter-pupil distance set properly, the mask is as close as I can set it and I have all my settings on High or Ultra. The straps are tightened to place the HMD square on my brow and everything looks great. Once they fix the minor issues it will look phenomenal. I'm suspecting a lot of peoples fuzziness issues are caused by an ill-fitting HMD. Well worth the time to set it up right. The difference between focused and blurry is about a half inch up or down.

PROTIP: If your work pays for eyetests (lots do if you work with a computer) then get your IPD while you're there, it's really easy for them to do.

Mine's 61cm +/-0.5mm :)

I've also switched out to the small padding.

With the DIY thinner padding, tradeoff for that is surely bigger pixels and more visible rgb pixel seperation and screen door, which is why I haven't bothered with trying it so far. It's just for me the main thing I'm not keen on is the limited sweet spot. If I can increase that I'll be happy.
