Greeting other CMDRS

being a beta backer i thought it would be nice to say hi to other commanders in these early days. but out of the approx 40 or so people i have sent messages to only 5 have said anything back.
i only say things along the lines of 'greetings commander, good luck out there'. are they worrying im a pirate? do they speak or read english, do i sound like one of those people you cross the road to avoid(probably).
im around 100 ly from sol, maybe people are more grumpy here.

i just had another thought, maybe they know me in the real world.

I would say hi back if possible, I have been trying to talk to other commanders but most seem to run away from me.

The game is that crappy, just because you see some other CMDR in the same system with you, doesn't automatically mean you can chat with him.

I want some friends in ED. Every ship I see is a NPC. Are we allowed to put our commander names on here? Mind you, mine is my real name.

i try to respond to text hellos but sometimes im just too bust getting my approach right and trying not to be interdicted lol :D

I've received multiple messages saying hello, so I'd hit ENTER to reply but it doesn't select anyone to reply to. So I go to the list to the right of the chat window, though it only displays ships not names.. etc

The game's chat system simply isn't great at the moment.

Hello there commander !

I sometimes miss answering when someone greets me, and it's usually just because I'm busy adjusting my speed on the approach to dropping out of SC or docking with a station. By the time it's safe to respond they've either docked themselves, or have left the system. It's a dangerous galaxy and not always easy to take your hands off the controls for being sociable ! :)

oh, and once I typed 'hello' in reply and realised I wasn't actually in comms mode.....I ejected 250, 000 credits of cargo when I hit the 'O' key ;) I have since rebound my 'eject all cargo' from the 'O' key to something less likely to stumble across !

Hi all,

I go by the handle Cmdr MaxHeadroom. I have been typing to Cmdr's I encounter also but have not heard a peep back or got so much as a "LOL" in text. Not sure if this is all too new for folks or what. I am used to running Ventrilo or Raid Call to have friends linked up constantly no matter where they are. I am so looking forward to being able to go hunting in a wing of friends.

Hope to see you all out there. Run bold, run frosty Cmdr's. :cool:
