Newcomer / Intro Greetings

Hello all.

I've been playing ED for about a month now and wandering the halls of this forum looking for inspiration, tips and how to's as I've gone along.

Thought it about time introduced myself to make my presence here feel a little more official instead of feeling like a spy.

I'm CMDR S900TER in game. I play on Xbox now after a brief period on my Mac, I couldn't cope with the keyboard and mouse setup.

My current ships are:- Of course the original Sidewinder with a few minor upgrades. I soon got myself an Eagle which I use a lot for bounty hunting. I know its not a tough ship but its very nimble and fun to fly. I've still got some way to go to finish upgrading her, but I'm definitely keeping her.
With cash burning a hole in my hull I went and splashed on a Viper IV. A nice ship with much tougher shields and hull than the Eagle but I'm not absolutely sure what to use it for.
My final ship is a T6. I wasn't even going to look at this until I looked at the cost of an ASP Explorer! A bit out of my price range yet and wanting start a bit of exploration, I read that the T6 is a good ship to get out there in. I've yet to get it kitted out ready for my first voyage. Still working on the funds to get decent scanners and scoop. I've got around 2.5mil credits with maybe another 2mil in upgrades in my Viper that I can easily replace later.

So this evening I will do a bit of shopping for the T6 and start plotting my maiden voyage. No idea where I'll be going yet but looking forward to getting out there in this thing. As cumbersome as it looks, I really love flying this beauty!

Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forums and I hope you keep enjoying the game.

I posted a thread in this forum about the current community goals being a good way to get a fast injection of big money - the ones in Obotrima are guaranteeing 400,000 to 700,000 for minimum contribution (i.e. one load) the other is a 4 week one.

T6 is a great explorer! I prefer it over any other ship.
Good luck on your journeys and don't forget to press F10 whenever you see something cool! ;)

Hello all.

You may have noticed that not everything on these boards is "inspirational" and "helpful" but some of us do try!

Thought it about time introduced myself to make my presence here feel a little more official instead of feeling like a spy.

Howdy and great to see you.

Thanks for having me.

No need to thank anyone other than FD. Fly safe and see you out there CMDR!

Yeah I'm in the T6 and have been for about two weeks this time.

I can't recommend her for long range exploration (sorry Irene!) as fuel scoop is not a high rating and takes quite a while to refill the tanks and, unless you strip out shields (which I won't do), the jump range can be a bit limited.

As a functional vessel though it is a great little transporter. (At the moment I've stripped out one cargo rack and put in a planetary vehicle hangar for salvage; she's good for that!)

F10, eh? This works with bthe non-Steam version i hope.

Yeah - F10 is the screenshot hotkey (saves in BMP format in it's own directory under "My Pictures" - windows that is, don't know about mac) - I believe ALT+F10 gives high-def screenshots but that might have changed, I'll let someone correct me...

Yes, I think Alt-F10 is high def screenie, but you have to be in solo mode to use it.

Welcome aboard!

As of tonight I'm an owner of a shiny new T-6 as well. I've barely flown her yet, just a couple of short hops to get her outfitted, but so far I like flying her a lot. But I've got her ready to jump into the rare goods circuit I was flying in my Cobra Mk III (that ship is almost completely kitted out as an explorer now for my first trip, but right now she's in the shipyard getting a few days' well deserved R & R). It was funny seeing the T-6 dwarfed by the medium landing pad after getting used to the Cobra taking up just about all of a small pad, and my first trip through the mail slot was a bit of a hold my breath moment. But I got through without a scrape. :)

I was like you WRT the Asp Explorer, all ready to get one until I saw the price tag. Chris Simon suggested taking a look at the T-6, and well, that's what I've got. The Asp is definitely still on the shopping list, though.

Hope to see you around the galaxy and the forums a bunch. Fly safe!

Daumn, Lakon should start paying me for this stuff.

I suppose it has good visibility, what sort of jump range do you get?

Have you got a build you'd like to share?

She has an AWESOME Lakon trademark visibility and more importantly, doesn't have annoying lights shining in your face all the time. If you know what I mean. ;)

Here's the build I was using on those photos. (the hangar and AFMU work only when landed on the planet, to save weight on powerplant)
She has since been engineered, of course, but even before it was more than comfortable. I did over 50.000LY in two months. :)

Thanks for the heads up MalcYorks. That was an easy 800k! Although I did get interdicted a couple of times but it seems pretty easy to run away in this ship.

Thats a cool pain job Chris, and I too love a Humbug. But dare I say that the Xbox controller doesn't have an f10 key [where is it]

Cheers Gator. So far I've found that the bigger the ship, the easier it is to land. Although thats as big as I've gotten in so far. If i now get in my Eagle, I'm all over the place aiming it at the slot!!

Ill report back when I've ventured out and maybe post a pic or two if I can find the button

Yes those horrible bright blue/white lights on the Asp are really stupid, completely ruins the beast. I can put up with the thrusters sounding like a flatulent duck in a tin bath but I can't deal with the eye-strain from those lights.

I'll have a play with the T6 at some point, even with that low FSD range - thanks for that.

Sure.

And I don't think it's that short. Mere year ago, it was fourth best jump range in the game. ;)
For exploration it's enough, although the flyovers will take longer. But hey, it means seeing more stuff on the road. :)

Or you can get it to something over 40 with Felicia's help, of course.

Just looked at a picture of the Asp lights - that is annoying. It's a shame - the rest of the cockpit view is fantastic.

It's kind of neat listening to the sounds the different ships make. The Sidewinder sounds like a cheap toy, while the Cobra has a deep, full-throated bellow. The T-6, by comparison, is whisper quiet.

The worst thing about those bright lights to the side of the Asp's "instrument panel" is that they are a bright blueish-white which is much more staining to the eye than a yellowish hue (such as in the Type-6 Lacon cockpit). It is possible to remove them from view by reducing the field of view (FOV setting in options/graphics) but this means reduced visibility, instruments moving off screen during manoeuvres and the lights popping into glaring view during those manoeuvres. In a ship touted to be "an exploration vessel", the lack of action by F Dev to correct this is just inexplicable.

As sounds go, the effects when engaging boost in an Imperial Cutter is outstanding.
