Grid Height matrix glitch...

dun dun daaaaa, check this out:

I did a quick search but couldn't find anything referencing this particular glitch.

The grid height says its 0.25m, yet I've somehow made it 0.10m. The only thing I can think off is the first part I placed, being the 1m roof trim. I moved it around a few times whilst making the pieces and adjusted the height, but always left it on the default height. I only noticed the height some way in to the design. Now when placing a 1m roof trim the default height is 0.30m:
82F2CB28B22955BF8542B023F88833EFBBC73ADE

And the lowest it will go is 0.25m, which if you do it will default back to multiples of 0.25m. I really don't know how I got 0.1m. I've seen 0.0m height, and there's a picture of it here: (https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...-building-grid?p=173960&viewfull=1#post173960)

And if you plop a flat roof piece down aligned to the surface the default grid height is:
514D17CB014C1E20710C05F7F4CD1F105E1A12FE

Whereas if you raise or lower the roof piece:

The only fix that I can think of for this and the grid size is for the lowest number to be 0m as standard and instead of just a slide adjusting the height, have an input box?

After a few tests I have no idea how it works the default height out. Raising and lowering other pieces didnt recreate a height of 4m. My theory was that the building height is the height of the first piece IF placed on the flat world surface. This seems true, but raising or lowering the first piece does not always default the height to 4m.

I've had lots of problems with the grid height as well. Sometimes the grid height changes, almost at random it seems, which causes the grid based pieces to not line up correctly anymore. i have also had a grid height of 0.0m, but then the actual height seems more like 0.5m. [wacky] I don't know if a particular piece caused these weird behaviors, but it can be really frustrating. I do use the small roof trim in all my buildings because for some reason it is the only way to get a 1m grid.

An input box for grid size would be a great solution. The frequency of the sliders is rather small (same for angle snap sliders), and sometimes they just don't work. It would also be great if the buildings could remember the grid settings. That's also one of the reason I use the small roof trim in all my buildings. It keeps the grid size at 1m even if you stop editing.

I've managed to get a build going with a working 0.1m height, but I can't recreate it. As soon as I separate the pieces from the building they default to 0.3 or 0.25m.

0.1m is awesome for what I'm doing, I just wish I knew how to make it happen outside of my building.

i have good news buddy. here's a picture of 0.05 m (5 cm) spaced 1m walls :)
Count 'em, yep that's 20 you see there. (Not counting either the first, or last, since both are at the 1m increment)
All in the same building.

and here's what makes that possible:

the good old Square Tile Roof Ridge 1m.
Now. Do I share HOW?
Sometimes we share how to get around irritating restrictions, like multiple grid orientations within a building, and Frontier declares them bugs and stops us doing them.

Is it worth the risk?
I tell you, and then it gets changed and no-one can do it anymore?
and then many of my close-up detail builds instantly break.
remember the 100k blueprint entry i submitted that won a prize?
that got broken a few weeks later by a fix and now it looks dreadful.

Oh woe is me, i feel so conflicted...

Frontier, may I share and do you promise not to "fix" it?

actually since i'm genuinely willing to help, but i don't want my creations broken, hit me up with a PM on Facebook, and i'll tell you how to do this. it takes about 4 seconds :)

lastly... 0.1 m horizontal grid spacing. just to get you really excited... those are 4 m wide, 1 m high walls, the grid is 1 m x 1 m, and as you can see, the walls are all selected, in the same building, and are 0.1 m offset.

Please tell me! I don't have Facebook.. [cry][cry]

It's interesting to see how you can get very small increments in both vertical and horizontal grids. Why do Frontier keep giving us these arbitrary limitations? Same goes for angle snap and coaster restrictions. We should just get an input field where we can set our own grid sizes/angle snap. We should also have the ability to disable grid-lock from the grid pieces so we can freely place/rotate them just like the other non-grid pieces.

to be fair to Frontier, it's risky to allow an "uncontrolled" feature to exist - it could lead to major crashes and very hard to defend if they've allowed us to use it "with blessing" as it were.
safer for them to adopt a we don't know about that policy until the code has been tested to cope with the "cheat".
but as soon as someone publicizes it, well, they really do have to stop it.

So. Do you have any social media account that i can send you a private message on? EDIT: found you, message sent

I only keep wondering why this grid has to be 4x4 mtr or 2x2 and the game doesn't allow smaller increments (only with above cheat/workaround I presume)

If a wall is 10cm wide. Why not give us an 10x10 cm grid?

I think the scale of objects is way to forced. Actually I think a 4x4 wall is way to big. Just like the lights, they are the same size of the peeps ingame.

That said, I want 1x1 and 2x2 walls and not 1x4, 2x4 or 4x4.

Man, I want 1x1 and 2x2 walls so bad. So many times there are situations where those walls are necessary. And yeah, the 4x4 wall is very big. In general, a single floor is around 3m in height, but we don't have a 3m wall (can add 2 + 1 but still). Many people use the 4x4 wall as the standard which causes lots of creations to be very over sized. I am currently working on something while trying to keep the size more realistic, and use some false perspective as well, just like real theme parks. The false perspective thing works really well actually.

This is great news! I've sent you a PM on FB

I think they should add another set of 'shapes' too, ones that are 1m and multiples thereof. Note I say ADD a set, not replace ;-)

I noticed this when trying to make a set of UK terrace housing. People in game are just short of 2m tall at their tallest. You just have to keep trying until it works out.
