From Inara.cz Grid Resistor

Type: Manufactured
Subtype:Capacitors
Grade:
matgrade0.png
Very common

Used in blueprints: 8x
Used in synthesis: 0x
Used for exp. effects: 6x
Used for tech broker: 0x
Location: Ship salvage (Military & authority ships), USS, Mission reward

Since the Grid Resistors are a class 1 Mfg Mat it is very easy to trade for them and get however many you need.

I have picked up a few from combat in RES areas too. Not seen them anywhere else “in the wild”, I’m afraid.

They are sometimes given out as mission rewards though, might be worth looking out for a few of them on the mission boards.

I would very much recommend trading for them. Well, unless you particularly enjoy the mats hunt, I'm sure there are people who do.

But otherwise, it's easier just to collect any mats you come across, and then trade for what you need. It's only really for Grade 5 mats that this becomes a problem and you need to seek them out specifically.

I'm finding these occasionally during rescue work in a burning station, and definitely getting them from mission rewards (pretty sure on the cargo I picked up in the station and then turn in for retrieval missions). Missions are typically giving 5 grids resistors each for the ones that offer them. Probably picked up 50 of em over the weekend.

I was in kotigeni most of the weekend killing goids and running passenger evac missions at shaw port, and many of those missions were offering grid resistors as rewards. In fact, there were grid resistors floating in the station debris too.

Why bother even looking for them? You can get plenty of g4 mats from encoded USS and then just trade those for them, you will get a much better return trading for them that way.

You don't have a choice when the engineers ask for them.

So what's stopping you trading for them at a Mat trader? They are only a g1 mat, you can get a 100 for 1 g5 trade.
How dare you use logic and state the best way to achieve something in game is to use the existing mechanics in the game!
Joking of course but you are right, I rarely worry about looking for G1's and even G2's manufactured mats anymore. Found if I concentrate on HGE's I will always be able to trade down at a much more favourable rate.

I've not done too much engineering but i've found the best way is to collect anything you see and trade for what you need. I have a list next to me for things I want and always keep an eye out for missions that give them as a reward.

For data materials I always carry a wake scanner and just scan every wake i see and I scan most ships that i see too
