Griefers: Apparently NPCs Are Jerks Too...

Been turning my efforts to doing some dedicated trading recently after Bounty Hunting for so long.
The first thing I noticed is that I have been getting interdicted a heck of a lot more in my T6 than my Viper! Heh! Makes sense, really. I have no problem with interdictions myself as they add a nice bit of spice to the monotony of trading, which is cool.

What I did find interesting though, is that most of the <cough> pirate <cough> NPCs would interdict me and then when I appear, I get ready to hand over some loot (or make a sneaky Frame Shift away) when all I get is a message along the lines of: "Now you die, scum!" and the little jerkwad in his Asp opens fire.

So it looks like even the NPCs are "legitimising" this style of play. Which is a shame really, when even NPC pirates aren't actually pirates. Just scum of the universe trying to ruin your day. Heh!

They are not pirates. Pirates will scan you and ask what cargo you are holding.

The type of NPC you ran into was just a maniac serial killer. Just like those you call "griefers". ;)

Iiiiiiinteresting. I have yet to be interdicted by an NPC that actually asks me for anything...

Yep, i've been mindlessly rammed by NPC's and CMDR's alike... Total loonies all of em! ;) I could only play in SOLO mode with a T6 as it was just too fragile for Open Play and flying a T6 is like putting a big cross-hairs on your back! i've got an Asp now which carries just as much cargo but you can put A5 shields on it (which require some serious hardware to penetrate!) and 6 guns... It's nice to get some payback and still be able to trade ;)

Yeah, this is true.... I don't think i've met a real NPC pirate they all seem like mad-dog killers.... I've met a few CMDR pirate which quite frankly are a complete joy cos you can always buy a proper pirate off :) Better than the stone killers who want nothing but your death... Trouble is now there are so many stone killers around if i get interdicted i go all out shooting immediately cos whoever gets the drop first usually wins the fight and i can't risk the guy being a killer.... I do think this is one area that needs looking at because i think the stone killers are destroying piracy between CMDR's.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong; i think stone killers add that extra bit of danger, but when interdicted there is no incentive whosoever to wait to see what that CMDR says to you LOL

So far I have only played in open mode. Atm doing trade runs in my Type-6 and, after around 100 round trips, I haven't been interdicted once (I have been interdicted on previous routes though).

I think the major factor is that both of my stations are 14Ls and 11Ls from their respective stars, so it's very hard to interdict someone on a 20 second supercruise journey.

On a previous route, one of the stations was 450Ls away and I was getting interdicted once in two runs in average.

Not to burst you're roleplaying bubble or anything, OP.
But NPCs are just code, you do remember that, right ?

Of course they are, it's about time people who would rather hide in groups in fear of griefers realize they're better off with players than NPCs: players can sometimes help you, NPCs never do.

And maybe attacking someone without a reason isn't griefing after all.

You just haven't interacted with enough NPCs...

I hope the Thargoids won't grief me. You think I can bribe them with some rares? Or will they just leave me alone if I dont have any cargo? If not, I think FD should just ban them as they have no real reason to attack.

I play in Solo since launch - I have been interdicted numerous times in a sidey, cobra, adder, t-6 (much more often which makes sense). With two (2) exceptions, I was shot at, once out of SC, without absolutely any warning or request for cargo, apart from the "die now!" message or variations of it.

Which makes me wonder about all this griefing-protests going on all the time in here. As if NPCs behave any differently.

BTW IMO the game is great as it is, the freedom to adapt to your own thing is GREAT. Any move towards 'forcing' people to do things would spoil the fun. I am playing in Solo cause I have a business to run, a family to take care of and interact with, and only 1hr every couple of days to play. I am saving money, doing things I enjoy in a game-environment I understand and have adapted to, and look towards raising my combat skill and my money in order to venture into Open in a month or so. Why people think we must have one or another's favourite way to play this game forced down our throats is beyond me. rant over.

Because if your opinion is equally valid as mine, then, well, my opinion is just an opinion. And it has to be more than that.
