PvP Griefers are seriously making me consider quitting

In ED they don't call them griefers. They call them "pirates". But whatever you want to call them, I'm sick of their crap.

I've been a huge fan. I own all 30 ships, bought skins for a few, decals, etc. I'm at a point where I've done enough that the only reason to play now is to meet up with some people and have some fun together.

But apparently that's not allowed. The only thing that's allowed is that people get to mug me whenever they feel like it, and then make fun of me for "whining" about it because "that's what Solo is for". They are 100% allowed to ruin anything I'm doing, and I have no possible way of getting revenge except to STOP what I'm doing, blow a few million calling my PvP ship at the nearest station, wait for it to be delivered, and see if I can find them... if they're even still online.

Can't even call them out by name in the forums. That's a "witch hunt". They're just "pirating", which is "valid". Minding my own business and wanting to play with people who won't take advantage of a ship mismatch? That's not valid at all. I should run like a coward or give them my cargo or just let them blow me up. I should play in Solo. I should "know what I'm getting into". I should make people stand guard over me.

Because what I want doesn't count, only what the "pirates" want counts. (not "griefers", they're not "griefers" remember)

The new justice system will raise the amount of Cr they pay... like that will make any difference or pay me back at all for the bull...

So you know what? Screw it. I don't need this in my life.

... maybe... idk... having a real hard time walking away from a game I've poured this many hours into... and the game has so much potential...

But let's face it: I haven't actually enjoyed ED in days.

Anyway... I expect the only people who reply to this thread will be pirates who can't wait to validate the awful way they victimize people for fun so... likely won't be back to these forums... just needed to say it.

Actual griefers ruin everything. They ruin every game. They're the kids who spend all day screwing with people just to watch them lose something they've worked hard to gain. That is their nature. They are the boils on gaming society's neck. Unfortunately, they're everywhere, and there's not much that can be done about them without draconian measures being taken. Elite Dangerous does have a saving grace, in that there is solo for those who want to avoid it entirely, and private groups for those who want to see others while being free from griefing. I recommend joining Mobius, which has a TON of players in it, so you can meet others, play with your friends, and still be free from PvP attacks by other players.

Of course, this assumes you want to avoid PvP. If you want to have the ability to attack other players, then you getting attacked by them is the price of that. I haven't seen a single online multiplayer game manage to get around that without also severely curtailing PvP itself.

You know, as much as I'm a fan of Open and people engaging each other in Open, I gotta say OP...

If griefers are ruining your game, then feel free to ruin theirs by playing in a mode devoid of them. They aren't concerned with your enjoyment, why should you be concerned with theirs?

I only play in Open is when when I'm willing to allow other CMDRs to be a part of my content. When I'm not, it's Solo or PG.

People should be concerned because Fdev has a bias for Open. Thargoid encounters are more likely to happen in Open. I suspect you get better RNG rolls in Open as well. Then there is the ban function and the new C&P features. Fdev want people to play in open. I suspect to eventually get rid of Solo and PG to reduce server overhead and therefore reduce costs.

Fine they want ALL of us to play Open then they have to accommodate ALL of us.

When in doubt, ALWAYS listen to Mr. Miyagi.

Every carebear vs griefer argument always reads like a fake debate and manufactured controversy for... I don't know what. Entertainment? Manipulation? Habit? Familiarity?

It's the same phrases and attitudes, repeated over and over again, every thread, since years, decades even. And I don't get anymore what point there is in all of this.

A more fundamental question is do you need OPEN PvP. I would argue NO because it always end in a grieferfest and please don't give me the whole it makes the galaxy "dangerous". You want real danger join the military.

The point is Fdev doesn't listen and why should they. Once they lure you in thanks to marketing and youtube streamers, they have your money. They could care less if you quit.

The second point is people do research before buying. I bet we have twice the number of commanders if Fdev actually fixed this. The only reason they are trying is probably internal numbers don't look good.

Because this runs contrary to evidence, I'd like to see your citation that indicates otherwise. Only the barnacle-event was bugged for approximately a week when certain modes worked for certain people, but even then it was not restricted to Open and in some cases Open players had to switch to Private or Solo to see this specific event. If you are referring to the interdiction-event then your statement would also run contrary to the evidence gathered by Commanders and therefore I remain interested in your data.

I suspect you get better RNG rolls in Open as well.
People tend to suspect a lot of conclusions when it comes to the analysis, or lack thereof, of data during circumstance. Myths and lies are spawned by these harmless and baseless suspicions, much like how long it took to end the community's assumption that UAs increased the interdiction-event chances, or even required it. Both of which FDev had to clarify due to the playerbase having a history of claiming things without providing evidence, or the willingness to test it themselves.

What fix do you want? We already have private groups and solo that entirely solve the problem. You want to avoid griefers? Play in a private group or solo. You love PvP? Play in open and hunt down other players at Community Goals or other popular locales. You like seeing other players around but don't much care for PvP? Play in open and avoid the Community Goals or other popular locales or join one of the larger private groups with strict rules about PvP.

Dream on, ED want people to play. Elite was always a single player game. They made the game to let people play where they want. Thargoid encounters will happen in any mode if the players work toward that.

Absolutely not true. Thargoid encounters are higher in Open. I would estimate it's twice as high. And Elite is no longer a single player game anymore. You still have to connect to the damn servers (Thanks Braben)

How about getting rid of PvP. Seriously in the end that's what you have to do to control griefers. Make PvP so unpleasant that no one wants to do it.
