Newcomer / Intro Griefers/gankers are def. ruining the fun for me

I really really want to play in the Open. The suspense and meeting other fellow CMDRs is welcoming for me.

I totally understand the piracy, assassins, role playing - all is understood. I played EVE for a brief time, so I also understand that logic.

But griefing is just no fun. It's like getting a financial and mission setback for no reason. Someone destroyed my exploration Asp Explorer with no weapons - congrats, what a skill. 🙄

In the past I encountered them every now and then, but nowadays, every single day for multiple times around the Bubble. It just sucks.

I know skills to evade the attack - in theory, but in practice I usually get my FSD turned off by Grom's rocket or just destroyed entirely in 3sec.

I tried setting that last-system button, but for some reason it doesn't work for me. If anyone knows better/good tactics to evade them please share.

Yeah... 'educational'.
I actually tried to learn those escaping manouvers, but they are far more skilled than me because it's their playstyle. I totally play something else, hence no weapons.

I would prefer to remain in the Open, for the reasons I said above. But if these setbacks continue this frequently... maybe I will join some private session group or something. Don't know what else to do.

Maybe you are doing a guide or going to the popular systems a lot where such GNKR (CMDR-wannabes) tend to watch for prey

Change up that habit maybe and blaze your own trail CMDR

Admittedly, that only works after the fact (unless you take your data from specific groups not on this forum and which we are discouraged to discuss here), but if you met someone you don't want to play with - don't. Contrary to the apparently popular opinion, the "block" feature in your comms panel does not block communications - it blocks1 instancing with that specific CMDR.

Apart from that, Mobius apparently still is a thing.

1 or tries to, at least. Depending on further circumstances, this can vary - but at the very least, the probability to share an instance with a blocked player is dramatically reduced.

Thanks for reminding me of Mobius. I just applied.

As for blocking them, yes - every time I get destroyed I block that person. But they are like mushrooms after the rain.
As for the limited systems... Probably true, but I met them in Bernard's star, Alpha Centauri, not to mention Sol. And of course, around Engineers.

Take a look at all the recent griefer and ganker threads and see for yourself how they played out. There is nothing you can do here; either accept the status quo of open and accept it as part of the game or a "challenge" or like, whatever; or use the tools the game provides to avoid instancing with players you don't want to play with, either by chosing your mode accordingly, or utilizing the block feature.

Beyond that, you can of course try to express your feelings towards certain players and play styles here or on reddit, but be aware you might not get the response you'd hope for.

Engineers are obvious known locations for them as is Shin Dez, but CG destination systems and other systems likely to be subject to heavy player traffic will also lure them in.

Many systems around Sol are rebuilding after the attack by the last Titan this will be encouraging dedicated haulers into the area and these predators were already there because there had been lots of Anti Xeno ship builds around which fall into the favourite can’t really fight back category.

So yes limited systems but those systems also include high traffic areas.

Frontier has always had this weird bias towards supporting that playstyle though. Until they change their mindset you're stuck with group or solo.

Play Solo or join a PVE PG such as Mobius, leave those fools behind

You can't put a limiter on the amount of "the welcoming suspense". You're bound to also have the encounters that enraged you so much that you started this thread.

If the frequency of that kind of encounters and the amount of rage is ruining your enjoyment of the game, there is a simple and totally effective solution:

Play Solo or join a PVE PG such as Mobius, leave those fools behind

You will play exactly the same game, do all the stuff you want and plan to, without the irritation those encounters you wrote about bring.

As simple as that.

I have finally been accepted to Mobius.

Not only I can totally live without other CMDRs being present (well, there's over 14k of us in total), I find it actually quite positive and refreshing. I don't need no CMDR for my line of play. Don't know what was I thinking before about being constantly present in the 'Open'. I guess I didn't want to miss a thing. A waste of credits and time on questionable individuals.

All the systems that you mentioned are currently hotbeds of player activity - specially in Open. And where there are many players, there will be gankers.

You can either avoid those systems while in Open or visit them in solo or PG. It's your choice commander o7

I don't understand why fdev doesn't make a mode where anyone can join (like open), but pvp is technically impossible. I'm sure that will attract some players that are now repelled from the game.

Some of the people who think that open is the only real way to play the game ("It's called Elite Dangerous") seem to think that if others would be forced to play in open only, there would be more targets to shoot at. Instead, it would only encourage those others not interested in pvp to leave Elite and go play other games instead.
