Griefers

Ok, this is kind of rant but I hope something can be done to stop people quitting when they have been interdicted..

Minding my own business in my Type 7, got interdicted and destroyed. Fair enough right?
If he'd have said something, or even demanded some cargo - If he's that desperate for 4t of cargo I'd have happily donated him some.

So, I switched into my fully kitted Viper,Looking for some payback, found the annoying griefer, who is attacking all the transports he can find (players only) but when the tables are turned he quits, twice!

Can something be done to stop this method of cheating? Maybe like other MMO's have a 'cool down' period before being able to quit the game.

This incident has made me move away from open play when trading, shame really as I was enjoying the interaction between other commanders and this type of play (while perfectly legitimate - well kind of) has spoilt my open play experience. I'll end up being one of those players who only goes into open with a tooled up fighter :/

It only takes one bad apple to spoil the cart.

well actually there is a cool down that prevents you from quitting if ur ship is in danger, but that cooldown only works if u try to quit through the main menue button. the problem is that u can kill the elite dangours task through the task manager, bit i am pretty sure that will be fixed soon either a npc will take control of your ship or it just stays floating there for example a minute so anyone can shoot it down.

Some people just want to watch the world burn...

...then hide under their Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak when the going gets tough...

But remember... It's an even playing field! You TOO can utilize this technique to get out of a jam!

Use the report player button in the game menu, it's against the rule to disco while fighting and a reportable offense.

You can't stop someone from ending the task or physically disconnecting themselves.

I'd rather just ram them into their own docking pad and have them explode before they can react, then block them.

ED is a potential Griefers paradise, although not seen many in my corner of the Galaxy. The unsporting disconnect/client close should be handled by leaving your ship in game for a short time. This is standard across any multiplayer gamed I've ever played.

'ED is a potential Griefers paradise' you mean in a sandbox we cant play the way we want to? Think we can whatever lable you want to call it

This is a peer-to-peer game, and such a solution is not as simple as it sounds because of this.

Agreed. I think it's essentially cheating when anyone pulls the plug in Open, although I can understand their reasons in the case of traders, even if I don't condone their actions. However a player who initiates PvP then pulls the plug when it turns against them is a very sad and pathetic thing indeed. I've seen the same thing with a Pirate I followed into FSD wake and interrupted whilst his mark was ditching cargo, just as the pirate was about to explode he vanished as if by magic. No FSD wake, and he certainly didn't go silent running as I was right on top of him.

The thing is, if there weren't so many "srzly RP murdris psyco coz RP" mindless pew-pews shooting at clean, cargoless ships - those players wouldn't feel the need to cable-pull or any of the other myriad of possibilities to disconnect.

Less mindless pew-pew = MOAR intelligent and constructive gameplay. And if, for whatever reason, a mindless pew-pew doesn't want intelligent and constructive gameplay, then the cable-pullers are giving them exactly that - in bucketfulls.

OP, good points. There is no way, no way in hell to prevent nasty people from being nasty in the game. Thousands players can do it right, mind other players, but a couple of jerks will be jerks and spoil the fun of all.

That's why Braben's decision to split the game into Solo and MMO was pure brilliance.

No, that's not RPing, that's not piracy, that's just psycho.

Well that would depend on what his goals are and what he thinks your goals are.

If 'm fighting the Federation, and I see a known Federation supporter hauling rares, blowing his/her ass out of the sky, and costing him/her a lot of money, is a great way to hamper his/her ability to assist the Federation.

It's not a purely peer to peer game. There is a persistent server in the background, monitoring everything, and which is surely going to be notified of the mutually agreed result of any fair contest anyway. If you turn your game off, can't my game be the only one to return a result - your death?

I have no problem with Griefers, it's folk who cheat by disconnecting I have issue with. What do you think?
