Engineers Grind required, or become obsolete.

So, those that can put up with the insanely grindy engineers crap are going to have some very powerful PvP ships. Those that can't take the grind(such as me, I am currently debating just uninstalling this and calling it quits), are going to be obsolete in PvP soon. Basically you are making me grind, mine(I HATE mining!), and just plain get lucky to continue playing this game. What the      is this nonsense FDEV? I'm already running into ships much faster and better armed than mine(the same ship BTW) and its already become annoying. So, if the option you have given me is grind until my head explodes or uninstall your game... I choose the latter.

Aint got time for the bull    .

I have got to grade 5 with 2 engineers without doing any mining.

Getting to rank 5 with most of the engineers isn't hard at all. However its dealing with the stupidity of the resource gathering and engineers. Makes the time you spend ranking up worthless.

OP> I've never really done mining before myself. Just for a laugh (and to satisfy my engineer) had a go today. Took me around 1 hours on site to mine 95 tons. It's really not that hard...

So what? Accoding to the last video from DB the main game never was meant to be about PvP, thats what CQC is for. So you lose nothing. And the NPCs are perfectly manageable with a bit of skill and a moderatly outfitted trader ship. There is a reason why you can flee nearly any interdiction without any harm in this game.

So no OTHER is making you grind. Thats entirely on yourself for aiming to solemly do a gameplay that is not meant to be in the main game that much at all.

Yeah it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I did have the prereq last night and half today before I took my kid to the park. No biggy really.

Mining is actually a nice relaxing activity if you outfit your ship properly. (Prospector Limpets etc.) The thing I don't like about the materials/commodity grind is that if I want to do any FSD grade 2 updates right now, I have to drop everything else I am doing, refit my ship for mining and head out to a good pristine ring system just to mine a couple of tons of "PRASEODYMUM"!

Why can't I just BUY THIS somewhere?

I don't have a problem with mining, but I don't want to go through the hassle of changing my entire load out to obtain this missing ingredient for the FSD upgrade I have to do next! As a result, I bailed on Engineers and am just focusing on the new mission system and other stuff I enjoy in-game.

I don't like being forced to play a certain way just to access an upgrade path! So much so that I basically abandoned the main new feature of 2.1 because I don't like being forced into Fetch Quests and Easter Egg Hunts! Its not my thing, and if I knew ED was going to become so focused on these despised forms of mindless gameplay, I very likely would not have bought ED in the first place!

Exactly.
People keep talking about having to grind or becoming obsolete in PvP. Outside of the CQC game mode you really have to go out of your way to PvP in this game.
I neither look for nor avoid PvP, and I have a PvP interaction maybe once a month. There's just not a lot of PvP to be had in this game. (again, CQC not withstanding)

I'm not grinding, and I don't feel obsolete either.
...but I do wish we had storage!

This material also available as a mission reward and in surface POI as dropped cargo. Even better ask a friend who likes mining to do it for you while you run cover and check around for more valuable asteroids with a little mining laser

Sounds like you already made up your mind. Or, you could calm down, and see what happens later on when FD eventually responds to issues brought up by the community.

Just to add, I don't think it's nonsense. It needs tweaks, fixes, and changes, but I'm being patient and waiting for what FD says.

Engineers patch killed the game. Im waiting for No Mans Sky then hopefully good bye to this. I loved this game until engineers patch now I hate it. I went back to Eve cause they killed this and I don't like the direction its going.

Ok. Enjoy NMS and Eve then. I disagree that they "killed" ED, but not everyone will be pleased with a game.
Best of luck, take care, and I hope you find a game that suits you.

While i dont think that Engineers killed the game it certainly moved it in a direction way to much players dont want. And in response they simply quit the game. which will lead to dwindling ressources for FD. And eventually to the end of development or will reduce the game to just another space shooter.

I played this game since premium beta. Extensively to the amount of 2500 hours now in three accounts. And i had loads of fun. But for now i do a bit of everything in my asps, because they are cheap to rebuy. and not much of that either. i simply lost the "fun" in it. No CGs that are worthwhile, missions are mostly borked. Trading is no fun either if you take 10 times the usual time because you have to kill dozens of annoying NPCs each run that have forgotten how to scan and open fire, just to flee once they get their shields down... but are back in pristine condition once you jump back to SC. Its simply no longer fun but pure annoyance. Mining would be fun if you still could get the mined goods to a station without having to kill a dozen NPCs on the way. Only thing that would be nice would be Exploring i guess. but i wont go out there not knowing what awaits me when i come back. I'll just wait in the bubble, doing minimal gameplay to stay somewhat skilled in NPC combat and wait for the things to come.

tl;dr: Engineers didnt kill the game because it can be ignored easily enough, but the stupidity of the NPCs will soon if it stays that way.
