I cant think of one game that is not a 'grid' to get stuff apart from story games like monkey island, The walking dead, side scrolling platforms (but even some of them have unlock systems) and so on. so was interested in hearing what the alterative system would be to solving this grid issue, without turning it into a linier game of progression were all player end up in the same situation.
I cant see how else it could be done and that 'grinding' is just an inherent part of this style of game, unless you allow 'pay to win' or maybe have a main story that unlock all items to all players (I would find that dull). so I'm thinking, that grinding is just part of this type of game and calling its a 'grind fest' is a bit like calling swimming 'wet' (a.k.a. 'what did you expect!')
looking forward too people views on this as I haven't played many games, so I don't know all the type out there.
(put this in engineers section because that seem to be where the grind argument is)
