Hi. Listen. Grinding and fun does not have to be mutually exclusive. Ok so if it's fun it would not be called grinding, but what I am trying to say is that grinding something should just be a place holder for a more engaging activity.
Take the engineers grind, just as an example. Instead of having to go on a tedious fetch x amount of y excursion, have it as an interactive mission with a story included. This would not only make it more engaging for veteran players, but newer players could have some sort of starting guideline to get them more engaged in the vast and sometimes lonely journey that involves becoming one of the elite. Having an engineered ship is also the biggest difference between older and newer players. Being able to grind money, unlocking the engineers and having an engaging experience, all at the same time, would alleviate that problem to some extent.
Regarding elite status, there is no real benefit to increasing your reputation in the three pilot ranks apart from better missions. If the higher ranking missions had more interactive elements to them, that would increase the overall fun of playing. If you fail a mission, you are still left with the option to unlock engineers the old fashioned way.
There are many areas I thought the game could expand on to increase immersion and alleviate the lonely feeling one can get. For instance, one of the changes I really appreciated was the voice acting for flight control on stations. Please add more varied responses to NPC pilots, maybe even voices for them too.
