Engineers Grinding commodites in different ships

Hi all,

I am wanting to use an engineer to improve the woeful jump range in my corvette, but I have to travel 450 ly to Maia to get the meta alloys. I have an ASP with a jump range of 31 ly so my question is this. If I use the ASP to go get the alloys and take them to the engineer can I still unlock the FSD upgrades in one ship but then apply them to another ??

Sorry if this is a daft question but havent used the engineers yet ...

Thanks

Yes you can, I took my asp got the meta alloys and the soontil relics (for the other lady) unlocked the engineer. You still need to collect the materials to do the roll though and you can't (well maybe you can not sure) transfer the fsd from the asp to the corvette as the fsd level will be too low from the asp. SO you will most likely have to get your corvette to the lady.

You unlock the Engineer with the meta alloys. You can do this in any ship. Then you can go there in another ship and roll upgrades.

nice one .. so i have this straight .. i can unlock the engineers with my ASP but then would need to get the corvette to grind the blueprints and take them to the engineer .,...?

You can get an upgraded FSD, fly back to your Garage Starport and then swap it into any ship that holds the same size module.

eg: Cobra III, IV, Diamondback Scout, and Diamondback Explorer can all share the same thrusters, but the DBE takes a FSD one size larger (5) than the others.

DBE, Asp E, and Python all take a size 5 FSD. A big ship like a Corvette? That's maybe a size 7?

It will likely take you several trips to an engineer to get level 5 access and the upgrades this unlocks. Doing it all in a Corvette would be very difficult.
Only take the Vette when you have finally reached level 5 and have enough of the materials, etc to get a few dice rolls.
