grinding engineer levels

are there any guides for grinding engineer levels?, i have been told that 1 rank 1 will take you to rank 2, 3 rank 2 to rank 3 ect, but what if i dont want to waste my materials, i have been told there are ways, like trading certan items to increase your exp with an engineer.

ps i also know about the googledoc telling me about where to get stuff, just want to know about leveling my engineers and the most effective way to do so.

money is no object for stuff and i have a full trade cutter

go mining, collect basic mats for level 1 mods.

grind the level 1 mods, and you will become level 5 in no time.

Im making a video on this currently, will release in few days and post the link here for you.

You can level any engineer very easily from rank 1 to 4 in just under few minutes

There are a few guides on here if you do a search. I can't remember the titles now.

I use level 1 mods to get to level 4, takes about 60 level 1 upgrades. To level 5 is another 200 so I use what ever I have most of but don't care about for that engineer. Normally a lightweight type mod is easy to get mats. So I do 3 level 4s to get to level 5.

If you click at the start of the engineers RNG roll it will give you the result immediately - saves a lot of time lol.

You can see how to gain reputation with each Engineer here:
http://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers

Just click on the specific Engineer and it will show what things raise your reputation with them. Like selling exploration data to Felicity Farseer for example.

Exactly, this. Much easier than farming materials IMO - particularly the ones who'll give rank for combat bonds and bounties. Broo Tarquin, for example - a single 28k combat bond gives 6% on grade 3, so it's about 450k-ish to go from the bottom of grade 3 to grade 4.
