Newcomer / Intro Grinding Fed Rep for Sol: Kill Trader mission...

I'm in LHS 1951 grinding Federal Rep for Sol. I'm bouncing between station missions and BH at the Nav Points - an aside, i was friendly with 1951 For Equality faction before, but think i lost it on a 8500cr fine on being scanned just before the shield at Gibson Terminal - and i'm looking at a mission:
Hired Guns Wanted to Quell Population
kill Traders LHS 2065 / 25.

So i'm to kill their Traders in the hopes that "the sheep don't get any vigilante ideas", and it's on behalf of LHS 1951 For Equality party (federation part of who i'm doing)
but i'm concerned as to the target. I've done these missions before then gotten fines for attacking then murder, and i know there'll be some USS lurker to tell me to attack the Pirates / Authority as an alternative.

So i'm just unsure if i should be worried about losing rep in the long run or if even though i rack up a debt (that i can hopefully pay for in reward + salvage)... (because it doesn't tell you the target's faction until you 'ID' them).

Edit:
so picked it up from 1951 for equality - Federation
target seems to be a Revolutionary Party - Federation...

Feds V Feds ? where does my rep go?

Do NOT do Fed vs. Fed faction missions because you will lose federation rep either way. It makes sense that if you play two states (or factions) in the same nation against each other that the nation of those states will look down on you. However, I understand your confusion because the fact that the mission is available at all leads you to think "well, maybe it'll balance out, at least." It won't.

I get where you're coming from though. I had to restart 3 times because I couldn't get my rep up for losing rep and I kept getting fines and bounties that I didn't understand how i got. Read my brief faq in my sig for stuff beginners need to know that the game won't teach you.

Be extremely careful with missions. If you want better rep, don't do illegal missions, find combat zones and fight on the federation's side, and trade at federation stations. Also, bounty hunting will help build rep (if i remember right... its at least profitable and legal).

cheers, yeah i figured as much. Only now i abandoned after the uss alternative and i have infinite time to return for my rewards, which i figure will just displease for equality any... may just not trade in...

Yeah, Himmel, the whole reputation system with the missions is pretty strange. Beginners traps, really.

If you need any more help in the future, feel free to post in the forums :) Or PM me, that would be fine. Always willing to help :D

Take care.
