Ground Combat

What's going on?
You can sprint for approximately 2 seconds. Then you need to catch your breath. The only weapons with reasonable damage output at range are pathetic against either shields or HP. The "sniper rifle" not only has a pitiful clip size but also the slowest projectile imaginable. The automatic plasma weapon somehow deals so little damage it makes you feel like you might as well hit people with it instead.
Are there weapons worth using coming?
Do you want an entire galaxy of people using exclusively shotguns?
Are we damned to swap weapons to kill one guy forever?

e: I'm still not really happy with the ground weapons, but the Scorpion is a lot of fun, so I'm just using that instead. I highly suggest it to anyone else finding ground combat kind of clunky and awkward.

Who knows, it could be any number of reasons.

Death I suspect is the primary issue, and then how relatively overpowered ship weapons are generally.

In theory a ship ought to vaporise an npc or deal enormous explosive damage, but FD really have avoided to fully apply any real accuracy.

The absence of any true sense of ‘loss’ is IMO the contributing factor; technically you never die in ship; so the player is from the start given a false sense of power with no appropriate sense of risk nor loss, the only actual loss is ‘time investment’.

FD has always attempted to establish a level playing field, however some players don’t want combat, so don’t utilise shields nor weapons, there really isn’t any co-operative play and crime & punishment wasn’t developed correctly; together this unintentionally opened the game to negative gameplay.

On foot combat is technically the same but those who want combat are effectively forced into focused combat areas were again their time is exploited.

If weapons were accurate and relative I imagine these foot based situations would get old quickly, and certain types of players would begin to hunt on foot players…which would undoubtedly identify how unrealistic the mechanism was and how empty the rest of the season was in relation to foot based content.

In totality IMO it’s a compromise that allows FD to apply the established player behaviour of grinding (they put it in because they noticed that’s what players were doing) and a finite level of development input, ergo they don’t have to create any depth, this fits FD practice of doing the minimum level of development over any long term detail.

what me annoyed the most of on foot combat was that after a very short period of time i run out of energy, i spent more time with looking for recharge than acutally fighting. so i gave up on on-foot combat. -.-

It feels awful. Sort it out.
So much nope.

My Dominator suit is equipped with three plasma weapons; Executioner, Oppressor and Tormentor. I am currently running around high CZs causing mayhem. I am learning the best ways to use the various weapons, and where the recharge and ammo points are. Knowing where one of each is at opposite ends of the settlement allows me to quickly top up energy and ammo. I try not to get too low on either, and use lulls to top off, whether really needed or not.

With the Executioner, I can stand off and when a firefight begins, shoot stationery shooting enemy and either kill them myself or weaken then for friendlies to take them out. Or force them to stop shooting and move.
The Oppressor (possibly the worst hand held weapon in the 'verse) I use at close - ish range to put a magazine into a target to take them down, or as harassing fire to force shooting enemy to stop shooting and move, relieving the pressure on friendlies under attack.
The Tormentor I can also use, for close range fairly quick kills, but with audio masking it is great for following an enemy team and picking them off one by one from the rear.

Steve 07.
Peaceful trader me.

I've found a solution, which is to just use the Scorpion and ignore handheld weapons.
The thing's great. No complaints so far.

even better fit dumbfire missiles to a ship
and rain "hell from above" to soften them up to a respectable level b4 boots on the ground
using ya noggin and the tec avail you can make this game incredibly easy
(sorry for the spoiler and the silent h ;) )
