Horizons Ground mission: destroy power plant, how?

Is there some clue to these missions?
Never done any of these before.
Needed to destroy a base's powerplant.
Went in. Was full of skimmers.
Tried to make a run towards the plant but was melted before I could reach it.
Trying to destroy a few of the skimmers while moving in was no go either.
Tried it slowly. One by one. These things hide and recharge shields so quickly, no joy again.
Can't aim correctly either. Missing a hand. Need one for the thruster, another one for the stick and a third for the mouse. Not going to happen.
Got wanted and unfriendly in the proces.
Gave up. Abandoned the mission and destroyed the second srv to get rid of wanted state.
What was I supposted to do here?
Are these missions even possible with just one player?

I love these missions, First fly over the base, The lower the rating ( 1,2,3 sec.) the easier they are. Try to locate the Gen. (Orange Cylinder) Take it out from a hover from a Click or Click and a half away. Use the SRV to soften up the base from behind rocks and walls.

So they can be destroyed using the ships weapon? Oh, I thought they changed that a while ago.

The key is to lay your fire on the side of the generator closest to the installation. Either with the ship hovering above and askew to that side or using the SRV. I have tried everything from the outside of the generator building to no avail. You have to do it on the side closest to the installation.

...or use dumbfire missiles. :)
Then it doesn't matter how precisely you can aim.
