Group or Faction: which is the more important?

A faction is a faction. There is no difference between Player Named Faction and Player Supported Faction that was created by the Stellar Forge.

There's at least one, and that is when FD introduces new PMF into the game. Those Systems who already have one in them are considered off limits to have another placed inside.

If you've supported an adopted MF however you will find new PMF in your territory eventually.

Our group has our main faction, but we also won't hesitate to use NPC factions as proxies, shields, bludgeons, scapegoats, etc.

I do enjoy the creativity with which some groups use and excuse their NPC faction pawns, it adds an element of realpolitik to the BgS landscape that takes it beyond the simple this is my faction, that is your faction mindset.

I have never used 3rd party tools much.

I for one love 3rd party tools as i use INARA on my ipad at work and feel like Captian Picard!

I like to use Inara too for to issue Missions and post the updates. But knowing it takes it's information from EDDB and is also prone to manual manipulation in certain ways I tend to trust the SysMap more. Just had another incident where I took the information on Inara for granted only to find out it was completely wrong.
