You can only invite people who are in the same instance as you to a wing so if you cannot get in the same instance as a friend you cannot join them

If they're on your friends list, go up to the comms panel and tab over to friends, there should be an option to invite to wing. It doesn't matter where they are.

Xbox Friend? or ED Friend?

Cause last night I was online at the same time as two other friends playing ED at the same time and none of us saw each-other on the comms panel.

That leads me to believe you mean "ED Friend" in which case.. how do I "ED Friend" someone?

The in game chat and friends list support page says these features won't be able until the full Xbox release. I've quoted and linked the page below. So, lacking the friends feature, how is the best way to find my friends? We should only need to find each other once, because we can create a Wing after that, correct?

"In game voice chat and friends lists will not be available until after the final release of Elite: Dangerous is made available.

During the game preview of Elite Dangerous on the Xbox One any existing Elite: Dangerous friends list will not be available and only your Xbox Friends list will be shown.

Voice chat will also not be available in game for the game preview, only Xbox One party chat can be used at this time."

Pretty much the only way I can find is to both go to a vacant star system and pray you get put into the same instance.

Once there, you can form a wing, yes. And that should last you until you're done playing.

But once you quit for the day, you'll have to repeat the process to form the wing the next time you want to play AFAIK.

Which is a real nightmare for XB1 players if this is the only way we will be able to play with friends until full release (which I'm pretty sure we still don't have a date on).

Wow, I just assumed it worked like the PC version because why not? And no in game voice chat now is another head scratcher.

I really should have read these forums before I bought this. So far its hard to wing up with friends, I can't use my account from PC and have to start from scratch, and the missions are buggy.
Please tell me there is some light at the end of the tunnel.... Like when Windows 10 is released all will be smoother sailing (or flying)

The Xbox One version is an early release version so they can work the kinks out of bringing such a massive game to a console. You also paid a discounted price for the full release, so as soon as they work the kinks out, you get all the bug fixes and updates, etc, for $30 cheaper than the people who waited. Just gotta be patient. Early access can be a little painful at times, as you are quite literally beta testing the game for them. Every bug you find helps make the game better. Go forth and break stuff!

I suppose this is true. And even the PC version is still getting bug fixes and regular updates.
I was just hoping that bugs and kinks would be easier when Win10 is out as I think it's going to be used on xbox as well. Or at least a good chunk of it.
