Re Groups.
My friend and I, admittedly he lives in USA and Im in the UK.
Despite many many attempts of getting the group play to actually work where we can see and play together. in space.
We have failed on all occasions. This is our biggest disappointment with Elite and pretty much a game breaker.

If the groups don't work with open play then how do both friends play online together, we have tried getting on the same server to no avail..... You should be able to select a server when the game starts, failing that your should be able to invite a friend to your server that you are currently on.
The other option would be.
Give us dedicated server support for group play.
The dedicated server will allow us to play as a group guaranteed, no instance lottery, and the dedicated server could still call home and get up to date info from Frontier
As for the current group system:
Make a group or join your friends group.
When you click play, select <GROUP> and the group name you wish to join.
Then hopefully if you are in the same station/area and you won the National Lottery Jackpot 4 times in a single month, the wind is blowing in the right direction, you have your lucky rabbit foot in your teeth and you crossed all your fingers and toes, you might win the Elite instance lottery you might be able to play together.
My friends and I have never been that lucky.

Wrong.. Its a mainly solo online game with occasional multiplay and an always online DRM

Ye it's pathetic we can't play online with friends, I mean what's the point if you can't, I love E.D but if they don't sort this out it could be a deal breaker.
It has to be open play, just allow us to select server then the problem goes away simple.
