Biggest you can afford, two years from now.

I'm on a 1080ti, I can max most settings, but not all. And if I do have to choose between those and supersampling. But I also game the aversion to lowered fps to a new level of crazy.
Seriously I'm bonkers. Koo-koo.

The 1070 should be a huge upgrade from what you have already though.

You won't be able to max out all settings with either card, but the 1070 will, naturally, provide better performance.

I've just got back into using VR after several months away. My 1070 should be able to push VR at high settings, but it requires lots of tweaking to get it smooth.

I have the 1060 and I feel like it's the minimum card you need to run ED in VR comfortably. Most of my settings are on med/high and still get some frame rate drop once in a while.

Between the two - 1070, obviously.

I went with a 1080 for my main rig, and planned to get a 1070 for the number 2 machine, and then ponied up for a 1080Ti for my primary rig. The 1080 now does the graphics work for the #2 machine...

Living between 2 countries gets expensive... *sigh*

Z...

Miners really pushed up the prices on 1070's. If the 1080 (which I hear is less attractive for mining due to gddr5x) isn't much more you might as well go for that one.

I run a DK2 with GTX970 it's fine for VR Medium (VR High is ok if you only stay in space)

The CV1/Vive are 1440x2 instead of 1080x2 so you might need to drop VR Low on a 970, see how you go.

@OP, you definitely want to get the best card you can afford, it makes a lot of difference on VR setups.

so with a 1070 can i max the dk2 out? with my r9 380x it looks so bad

I should think so, my other PC with 980ti can and I think the 1070 is about on par with the 980ti?

The only issue I have on this rig is AMD 8350 is a bit of a bottleneck. I've got an i7 alongside the 970 so that probably helps there :)

the 1070 is good, for me it needed paired with a decent CPU (my i7 4770 didn't cut it, but the 4790k does oddly, though my windows install and memory setup may have played a part) to get decent VR in Elite (and that's with medium settings).
My 1080ti and i7 7700k gets me SS1.3 and mostly all high settings and 90fps 100% of the time.
Going above SS1.3 to 1.5 is still fine with a few frame drops.
Above 1.5 and ASW will kick in at the usual places (stations, menus, res sites).
Put all settings to ultra, ASW will kick in again at the usual places (with some stutters at a res etc).

If you dont mind ASW (45fps) then the 1070 will be fine.
If you want 90fps all of the time, you'll need a 1080ti and a beast PC, and still keep some settings lowered and SS no more than 1.5 :)
I still say, to run everything at Ultra, have 90fps 100% of the time and have SS at more than 1.5, the technology doesn't currently exist.

Not sure why your 4770 did not cut it I got the 4790k that's only a refresh it's like 5% faster the 7700k is only 10% faster then mine
