GTX 1080 + Vive = disappointment

Thats what I was trying to say... but i kinda butchered it in my response. But yeah thats the post I've read before and did exactly what it said. But no matter what settings it still seems to miss every other frame.
Maybe i need to reinstall all my vive associated software and redo the room setup...?

Have you tried disabling desktop game theater in Steam settings? That could be the reason for your FPS issues.

You might be interested in my post talking about how to get the Vive and the Rift crystal clear. :D

Firstly, thank you z4.MAFIA. Your tweaks really worked for my rig and Vive. Had the GTX970 working pretty decent at SS1.5 with chaperone tool but had issues with shuddering when moving my head even slightly and lets face it any lower than 1.5 wasnt good enough, only real difference is at the 2.0 range (or thereabout) IMO.

So picked up my MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X a few days ago and have been tweaking the settings on ED..and Im super happy with the results. Am at SS 2.5 (no ) with very stable frame rates in deep space and a little dip in FPS in the usual "high demand" areas. Overall not very noticeable though, most importantly No shuddering, it runs very smooth!

Have kept the in game settings at:
VR High preset
SS in game at 0.65
AA off
Ambient Oc off
Everything else on High or Ultra (except shadows)

Still pushing the limits whenever I can be bothered so yet to find the perfect sweet spot for all settings..but if anyone is interested I will do it and post every single graphics setting I worked it at including my Rig specs.

The Vive was disappointing at first, but thanks to the likes of z4.MAFIA and others on Frontier Forums I can say that Im no longer disappointed...Im "MOSTLY" happy ;)

VR still has a long way to go but its great playing ED the way it should be played

Not landing on planets much, driving the SRV or canyon running then? Even a RES during battle will tank your frames with any rig on SS1.5.

Just did a Cut the power mission on a medium sized base..apart from a few stutters when i got real close to a turret was fine..im not saying its perfect but i dont mind the occasional drop in fps for 1 or 2 seconds..still totally playable..personal taste

90% of the time im bounty hunting on RES sites and same thing when i get too close to a ship in battle (as in about to hit the damn thing) yah drops for a sec or two max but id rather that than SS @ 1.5

Havent tried canyon running yet...

Hey Guys,

just gonna bump this.. I'm on a rift + GTX 1080 and notice it only gets 50% gpu usage topping out at 3111 MB being used under load. I got better performance out of my 970. Any ideas? I've tried what was mentioned in this thread and others so far... downclocking, ddu, formatted windows, its in the right slot etc.

@OP, I have the same problem every so often. ED has a mem problem.. I also have an msi 1080 and it handles everything i throw at it, including ED most of the time. with ED running, I lose any OC capability and I get memory artifacts on screen. restarting fixes this problem for about an hour before i have to restart the game, not my PC, yet again.

sad to say it but NV drivers for 10 series cards are complete crap.

Hm. My 980 runs 99%. And they said in this topic that 1080's power is more or less equal to two 980s. So seems about right :D
On the other hand, have you tried maxing out the 3D settings for E.D in the nv control panel?

If you really want VR, start now. Yes, it is the first step on a long road, but who cares? We finally got cyberspace and we can have it in our living room.

By the way, i have a GTX 970 and an Oculus Rift. Elite runs like a charm with constant 90 fps using 2.0 x oversampling (using the Rifts debug tool and not the Elite settings), everything turned on in medium to high settings and ultra shadows.
No crashes, no judder. I plan to pick up a 1080 within the next 2 months for maximized visual settings. I have no doubt, that the 1080 will deliver, from what i read.

That is the funniest thing I have read all day. Elite doesn't even run @ 1.5 oversampling (in game or oculus's) with a constant 90FPS on a 980 let alone a 970.

that sounds about right , im running a GTX 1070 with Oculus rift and i get around 70 to 75 FPS on high setting but drops to 50 or so FPS on planet bases

Isn't 50fps a bit of a problem then? I thought the 1070 was suppose to be all over VR?

As I understand it:

RX470 / 1060 = 1920x1080p60
RX480 / 1070 = 2560x1440p60 & VR Low
Vega? / 1080 = 2560x1440p>60 & VR High
Titan = 4K60 & VR High
