Sounds like it is using integrated GPU rather than the 1080.

There is a setting within Nvidia control panel that enables you to select which GPU to use either globally or for each game specifically.

I used to have a gaming laptop when I moved around a lot and had this problem before.

I think it's under 'manage 3D settings' and then select 'preferred graphics processor'.

Thank you. But that didn`t solve ist either. I also specificly selected to use the 1080 for ED. No success.

Tomorrow I will post the results of FurMark. Maybe that will get it any further.

Thanks to all

Thanks for those number, that prove something is effectivelly wrong and can be fixed in some way (obviously).

Power Management of the laptop itself, usually in task bar bottom right. Check if it's set on "Save Battery" (even if plugged) or "Optimized Performance" or something like that. Power Management itself can decide to lower GPU and CPU to save the planet ;) If Max Performance exist, you know what to select.

Edit: And yes it still look like the integrated CG is used versus the NVidia. Same symptoms.

Thx, I will check that.

Right now, the FurMark benchmark test is running. I will also post the results as soon as it is finished.

Well there will be no FurMark numbers because I obviosly am not able to figure out, how to get some after ending the test.

The power management ist indeed on "balanced" but I am not able to make the change to "maximun output" (or what it is called in english), even though I own administrative rights. This seems to be a hell of a problem according to the internet.

Working on it...

Figured it out and power management is now on maximum output.

Aaaannnd....still the same.

BIOS (Style note) shows the GTX 1080 but there is no way to Enable/Disable ist so I have no idea if this is ok.

Sorry, I meant make and model! 😀

Is there maybe more than one display port or HDMI port on the laptop and you have the HMD plugged into the wrong one? I think I read that the Rift needs to be plugged into a port that is hard wired into the GPU.

Maybe try another port?

No, there is only 1 HDMI and the Oculus Center also says that everything ist connected ok (2 x USB 3 und 1x HDMI).

I just did a full reset und rolled the system back to how ist came. Nothing changes.

Tricky thing is that I cannot just use other GPU drivers since I obviously have to use the NVIDIA drivers from the seller. Not sure how I will upgrade drivers in the future. Haven`t had this problem with my last notebook using AMD.

DEA - we have the same laptop, mine is assembled by scan.co.uk under their 3XS brand but it is the same machine made by velo and rebranded by the retailer. Uninstall every graphics driver you have on that laptop, then using some generic windows driver go to nvidia webpage and get the current driver and boom it should work.

I should note for clarity that I bought my laptop with no storage drive and transferred my SSD from my previous laptop then installed windows and drivers myself.

I will try that. Last time the problem was, that the NVIDIA driver from the webpage said that there was no graphic card found that it could match with. And I found some mentions on he internet that I would need to use the driver from the seller.

But maybe I did somethin wrong so I will try that.

Thanks very much.

Too bad, as I said.

Again I removed the nvidia driver with DDU, downloaded the notebook GTX 1080 Win10 64bit driver from the nvidia HP an the installation app said:

"no compatible hardware found"

Ok, now it made a HUGHE IMPROVEMENT!!!!!

Since the actual notebook driver from the nvidia HP ist obviously somehow broken (some others mentoned the same problem) I downloaded and installed the previous driver 375.95.

Running ED I had no problem in the menue. Ingame at first it was ok (not great and worse than using my GTX 980 on the desktop PC, but ok) but after rotating the ship with small stutters regarding to the stars, looking around in the cockpit wasn`t so gut anymore but still much much better than before.

Now the steamVR stresstest says that my system is (at least) capable of rendering low qualitiy VR - which is better than non at all what it said before.

So the question still remains: What is the problem, why don`t I get what the GTX 1080 can do at all? Is it possible that the actual driver 376.09 is so much better that the 1080 only really goes with this one? In that case I obviously have to wait or look for a funktioning version that will detect my 1080.

Not sure but in the past "m" versions never were so powerfull as desktop versions, from my experience you can't expect the same performance, that's why my first gaming laptop was my last one.

4GB on the GPU??

I mean it'll probably be a 1080M not a 1080 but I would have thought it'd have > 4GB.

Could that be an issue with high res VR, I don't know.

What laptop is it?

It`s this one

Model: P775DM3-G

It is indeed a 1080m und it has 8GB which is also recognized in GPU-Z.

But I now ran the Heaven-Benchmark test again with the better working driver 375.95 and there still are 4GB:

Platform:
Windows NT 6.2 (build 9200) 64bit

CPU model:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz (4007MHz) x4

Usually, when only 4GB is recognized it is due to a 32 bit exe. You are running 64 bit Win 7 so I have no idea why it wouldn't be used...

I'd uninstall all graphic drivers, go into device manager and uninstall the video card, then reboot and reinstall.
