Hardware & Technical GTX 560ti dead? best bang for buck replacement?

The DVI ports on my GTX560ti appears dead, I don't even see the bios splash screen as it boots up, though the card does work via its hdmi port once Windows7 begins loading.

Device manager sees the card and says is working correctly, but the NVidia console only shows a vga option, despite uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers. Have tried using another monitor and get the same result, dropped an old Radeon card with DVI port into the motherboard and that works fine, see the bios splash screen etc.

It's about five years old is it fair to say its Kaput? if so, what would be my best option for replacing? Not after top end high performance but something with a noticeable performance improvement and reasonable price.

What's your exact model? I have an Asus 560TI in a box somewhere in working order, not sure but if yours was the exact same they might still work as an SLI config? I'd have to go dig it out to see the specific model.

Without knowing the budget it's difficult to answer I guess..
I'd say 1060 6GB as a minimum..or why not 980ti, if you can find one 2nd hand for a reasonable price-It's a beast, but requires lots of power so check PSU first!

Sometimes cards can be brought back from the dead with a BIOS reflash. Check it in a different slot / machine and see what happens. Check the board for any obvious problems, but like any other board, they can suddenly drop dead for any number of bizarre reasons.

I say go one up on that and buy a 1050Ti. I've recommended the card to loads of friends who wanted to play Elite PC. None disappointed. It is actually my favourite 10-series card for this reason.

Been looking at this on Overclockers, seems to be two variants a larger card with 2 fans and a mini with one, the MSI is looking tempting for £150

It's up to you but it might also be worth scouring ebay, a budget of £150 is putting you square at the second hand target point for the GTX 970 & even some lower end GTX 980's.

Both of which (depending on the rest of your system) would provide a large increase in performance over the 1050Ti. I also wouldn't discount the GTX 960 which in 4Gb form should also outperform the 1050ti (Slightly) as long as you can get it at a decent price.

The 3Gb model has a small problem over the 1050Ti - namely the fact that it only has 3Gb of GDDR5 rather than the 1050Ti's 4 at lower settings this is not an issue. As you push the settings up however it will fill up the 3Gb 1060's memory much quicker then the 1050ti - resulting in dropped frames / missing or low textures etc.

Elite Dangerous Horizons really needs a 4Gb card minimum at 1080p to remove such issues.

I am really liking my RX480 (8 GIG) and, now since they sorted it's drivers, it's a solid performer. It's also getting cheaper too, but maybe you prefer to stick to NVidia cards? If so, a 1050 would be a great choice. I nearly went for one of these myself but was swayed by the cheaper RX480 instead as it has enough capabilities for me and my modest PC build. :)

I can vouch for the 4GB. Why I use the 4GB version of the 960.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I carefully considered them all. I've decided to go for a new 1050ti, it's in my budget, I prefer new with warranty over a secondhand card of unknown history, even though it's a lower spec.

I think you'll be quite happy with it. The best value card for 1080p gaming right now, IMO.

Cool bro. Can I ask what are your other specs? I'm referring on some setup with GTX1050Ti and GTX1060.

As of 1060 3GB is such a concern, I might wanna go for 1050Ti now. The 1060 6GB is badass but it's not the best bang for budget.

Just an update for anyone following.

1050ti arrived, fitted and working, surprised how small and light compared to the 560 it replaced, also no need of separate power feed.

Haven't had any quality gaming time but had a quick test, cranked up the game settings to ultra and am getting steady 60fps inside stations.

So far so good.
