GTX 650 Ti - Do the Job?

I've recently built this system for video editing:

16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance

1GB EVGA GTX 650 Ti, 28nm, PCIe 3.0

Intel Core i7 4770S, 1150, Haswell,

MSI H87-G41PCMATE, Intel H87, S 115

I'm guessing processor, mainboard and RAM are going to be enough, but what about the GTX 650 Ti? Is that going to be enough to Rock ED's world?

Don't know about rocking, but it should run the game fine. Maybe not with all bells & whistles enabled, but decent FPS even at 1080p.

Define 'rock'
You'll be able to run the game great in medium settings, pushing to high.

I7s are irrelevant (so far). The video card is the important thing.

Cool. I've decided to suck it and see. Just purchased the Beta Standard so I can get access to some of the single player stuff.

Yesterday-Me said we weren't going to buy it because we are 'too busy' but today-me has kicked sand in YM's face and we bought it anyway.

Downloading now so soon I should be able to define 'rocked' to myself :)

GTX 650 casual version already can run game on max settings with 60fps, so Ti is more than enough.

In future if you will want to shell out for OR for consumer version, then you probably will have to upgrade your graphics card though.

Beat my spouse's system, GTX 560 and (gasp) Core 2 Duo @ 2.7!

Plays the scenarios without problem. We are looking to upgrade, though, if we can find the money and the right upgrade.

i found that my old 275 gtx card is quite decent. 1.7 gig vram. Everything at high.
have not tested it in asteroid belt. Bit in station it is perfectly playable

Running a 560ti here, get frame drops around ringed planets from 60 to 9 but I believe that's a known issue and not the gfx card (or is it?)

If time comes to upgrade (quite fancy shadowplay for recording flights) what would be a worthwhile replacement with a bit of futureproofing built in?

or should I just stick with the 560ti and get full version of Fraps?

tia

Stick with 560ti and upgrade when OR consumer version is announced...current line up of cards is quite old but still very pricey.

My experience with a 1280 Mb GTX 570 o/c was that it did a very decent job, the only thing was that I think it ran out of headroom on Memory using high settings. The game seems to like as much video ram as you can throw at it, which isn't any surprise as the same applies to most flight sims.

I bet you would get decent performance on med settings with your dependant on your resolution. As I can't see the difference between med and high when playing it isn't a big loss.

Nice work, I always like to stick it to yesterday me as well

Hopefully you get to max settings or close as possible!

Well to answer my own question, it works just fine at the max res. Not played with any of the graphic settings, but the defaults that it let me play with without my doing anything look pretty good. In the 'shoot the can' thing I could see plenty of mist around the cans and space looked .... spacey....

I can see that I suck at this game using the mouse though.

Anyone want to suggest a joystick that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg - by which I mean I don't want to spend more than thirty quid.

'm quite liking the xbox 360 controller, available on amazon for around £20
or wireless similar price but needs a receiver, i have a 3rd party one that was £10 and works fine ;)

Currently getting 40-50FPS in stations with my GTX 660 (upgraded recently), so YMMV but the 650Ti has double the shader count of the GTX 650, but the 650 (not Ti) did not run the game well at all.

Even with all the settings turned down, it still barely managed 40FPS in station, and running with details on max, the game dropped to 10-20fps in stations.

My 660 is giving a performance boost over my older 470 though.

Thanks for posting this. I have a 650ti and was wondering how it would run ED (I'm coming in at standard beta). I was thinking new card soonish but if the 650ti runs the current build of ED in a satisfactory manner then I can coast with this for now. I'll put that money into a HOTAS :)

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

Pompous name, but has throttle, twist for yaw and works ok (with some deadzone tweaking, can be done in E: D controls menu).

Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick (PC/PS3)

10 quid over your 30 pound budget, but don´t think you´ll regret it, if you can get the extra. 39.99 on amazon with free p+p. Had mine for 6 months no probs.

CCL appear to have it for 36 quid on ebay. This game is made for HOTAS set up
