I'm looking to get into the Guardian stuff. Specifically the Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster. But it seems like everything is 1,000LY or more away. And I'm not really sure what I need to do. Is there not anywhere close that I can go to? I'm currently parked at Marizi system.

But 40 minutes of jumping? Way too much!
1k LY is alright. Do it on a weekend. The only thing you really need to do is relogging and shoot pylons. That's really about it. Most importantly relog.
Once youve been FAR out into the black (at least minimum doing Palin unlock) you come to take 1k ly as nothing unless youre doing it in something akin to an FDL, then it's just a tedious lesson.
Confirm vid above. Used for info when unlocking mine. Took me two evenings to unlock, well, 2 sessions since it weren't full evenings. One session was flying to the site and shooting things to get the blueprint and more shooting to get the materials. Next session was even more shooting to get guardian materials since RNG decided to give me everything but the one component I needed. Bit of flying next between various traders and bam! Booster unlocked, bought and installed.
Overall totally worth the effort, be prepared for some grind shooting since vital materials have tendency to not drop in quantities you require.

Drop rates allegedly improved in Q4 update, so OP might want to wait for that.

Its very straightforward to do the guardian stuff. Just remember to take enough mats for refuel, re-ammo the srv. (Drones pop out now and again and need shooting, the pds on your ship take care of their missiles) Put point defences on ship and park nearby but not too near so as to prevent pylons growing out of ground. You only need 1 relic per blue print. You can ignore all the caskets and other assorted bits n bobs lying around but I do scan the obelisks for data. Find where the orb will pop out and shove srv there as soon as. Then as you drive by triangles in ground, the pylons will pop out. Find all 6 first, theyre symetrically laid out, then shoot em till they engage 1 after another, shooting drones as they pop out. When all are done, drop relic by the sphere place, its obvious where you need to do this, then wait, scan it and finish off any drones.
Its useful to pick up drone bits once youve nerfed em.
It may be advisable to take two srvs just in case as its a long way to get another. Stuff happens.

Honestly I don't know why I saw "Guardian Frame RATE Shift Driver Booster" in the subject line, I must be getting old.
That said, if it's worth it, you'll make the drive there. Otherwise everyone, including the common rabble, will have it.
I still have a Dolphin parked in the station in New Growth. Available for rent at reasonable prices .
And whoever is claiming that these 20 jumps equal 40 minutes is doing something wrong. If you don't stop to admire the daisies, that's 20 minutes. If you start off at Jackson's Lighthouse and use the boost there, it's 18 jumps with a 40 ly ship (e.g. that Dolphin).
On the other end of the scale would be the scenic route, a.k.a. RoadToRiches - 107 jumps from Jackson's Lighthouse with ~75 MCr. in exploration payout.

I went there with a dbx with 50ly jump range more or less. Started in diaguandri. It took me around 20 jumps, so 30/40 minutes. If you go there, chose a small ship, they are easier to land. And put on a point defense turret.
Unless you want to complete Ram Tah's puzzle, you don't need cargo space. A dual SRV bay is advisable though.
