Guardian FSD Booster: Focus Crystals Synuefe JB-G B58-6 6 H

Looking for Focus Crystals at the camp here. It's a little buggy, I just took a pass through the camp and all mats are suspended 10 feet off the ground. Still collectible... but no crystals.

There are some uplink stations... do I need to activate them with a scan? Is there any danger in doing so? I notice there's an NPC spacecraft buzzing the site, is that a danger? Other than relogging and crossing my fingers, is there something I need to do here to find the crystals other than run around and scoop up mats until I get lucky?

While I can't say much about a camp on Synuefe JB-G B58-6 6 H, focus crystals are a regular G3 mfg mat that you can collect from ships you blow up along with the other mats. Its pretty common. Haz Res sites, assassination missions, pirates, etc.

They might be a mat available sometimes at crash sites and elsewhere too.

I highly doubt there is much danger in accessing an uplink point.

Well I cruised the site a few times and the NPC isn't a threat, he kinda comes and goes with each relog. I was a little concerned because his blip indicated weapons ready.

I know its lame but I am not ready for combat yet.

There's a data source at the entrance that I can scan each pass and get things like cracked firmware, no idea if its needed or valuable. I'm just nervous that activating each uplink will call in the cavalry or something, that's why I'm not scanning the others scattered around the base.

5xG5 exquisite focus crystals and lower are regularly available as reward for all missions including noncombat ones. Just do a few and down-trade might be easier?

For reference, 5 x G5 exquisites would give 45 x G3 when traded down, so a single mission will do what you need.

You might be surprised at how easy combat can be. If you go to a low res site and scan the ships until you find one labeled 'wanted'... or just look for the security ships shooting at somebody... join in. It is pretty low risk and you can always run away. Just keep an your shields and hull. If you lose your shields maybe consider running away. If your hull is pretty tough you can hang around a bit more.

In a low or med res site you can use any ship you like. Obviously the bigger badder ship will be easier, can fit bigger and more weapons etc.

If you have some extra internal slots you can fit a cargo rack and collector limpet controller. This will allow you to use limpets to go get mats from the blown up ships.

You don't need to be a combat pro. Just know the basics.
  • Gimbled weapons to start. Makes life much easier. I recommend lasers and multicannons at first.
  • The biggest A-rated or Biweave shield you can get.
  • A-rated thrusters, power plant and power distributer.
  • Throw on some shield boosters in your utility slots if you can.
  • Lasers to knock down their shields, multticanons to shoot up the unshielded hull and destroy them.
  • If you can unlock some engineers, start engineering your thrusters with 'dirty' and distributor with 'charge enhanced' and ' and your power plant with 'armored'.

That's good enough to get started, then with a bit of research you can easily go further.

The fastest, easiest, most fun way to collect manufactured mats is to bounty hunt in a ship that has some collector limpets. All these workarounds such as spamming HGE's, relogging at "camp" (probably dav's) tend to frustrate players; so don't do what frustrates you! Elite was started with, and continues to excel with ship combat. If you scan every ship in a RES and kill the wanted ships, and vacuum up the mats when they pop, soon you will be full of many manufactured and encoded mats. Since not all of manufactured/encoded mats can be obtained via bounty hunting, use material traders to trade for those materials when your bins get full.

Edit: if you feel you are not ready for combat, just try it and go into a LOW RES. the cops will assist you. then go to a HIGH RES for better plundering. Soon you will be in a HAZ RES and never look back. NPC's are generally very easy to kill. If you are scared, stick to killing the smaller npc ships with low combat ratings. you will learn quickly.

A few runs around Dav's Hope showed me that focus xtals are still being spawned OK (the "floating" materials was fixed there some time ago).

The comms logs just ned to be targeted to obtain the messages (the story of Exploration Camp C-NO4 missing explorer) - the data port (the extending "periscope" one) has to be targeted and interrogated with your data-link scanner (you can do it in turret view) - this gives you encoded materials and can be done every relog / visit.

Look for some passenger missions that reward Exquisite Focus Crystals. Then trade them down to Focus Crystals, even 1 mission should give you all the ones you need.
Sightseeing ones can be a quick there-and-back (check the distance!!).

To keep my stock up I go to Robigo to do these, or I do Thargoid hunting missions when we have systems in Invasion.

A triangular blip indicates hardpoints deployed which can also mean scanners deployed or in operation.

I am unfamiliar with the acronym. What's a RES?

I figured it was benign, like the 'storytelling' obelisks at the Guardian Ruins, but without weapons onboard I need to be cautious.

I had read that the 'periscope' was initially set to one read, then changed to three. But I have been able to scan it with each relog.

If you want, friend me in game and we can bounty hunt together. I will provide over watch, with a shield healing and hull repair capability. I play most days and will be online later today.
That's very kind of you and perhaps I'll take you up on your offer when I'm ready to get my feet wet in combat.

So, is there any point in farming this place beyond what I need at the moment (focus crystals) ? Will other engineering schematics require all of the other mats found here, like heat vanes, etc?

yes. once you get into engineering your ship(s), you will probably want to do more. you will always be limited by engineering materials, so if you collect them during the course of normal activities, after a while there's a good chance that you will have what you need, or very close to it. an engineered ship, even slightly engineered, will dominate npc's, and in general make you faster, jump farther, more lethal, etc. it's a rabbit hole that I enjoy.

Yes because even if the ones you get turn out not to be needed for the things you want to do with engineering there are Materials Traders in the game where you can exchange them for ones you do want/need.

IMO, it's smart to collect as much mats as possible while playing, like that you already have them when you need them. Then there's no need to try to minmax the game by relogging and other grind shenanigans.
